Marcha Chilemena DUPES Indian Press CLAIMS He Is A Former International

“Zambian football is ingrained in me. Look at these nerves, there is no blood running, only football,” jokes the former international and now a member of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).

Despite being the self-styled Mr. Zambia, Macha was caught unawares when the biggest tragedy hit Zambian football, or rather Zambia itself, the 1993 air crash which killed 30 footballers and officials, and, as he confesses, had to disbelievingly hear it “from a mad man on the street.”

Macha, now a celebrated journalist who runs Zambia’s only sports weekly magazine, will never forget the tragedy for the rest of his life, not just because it’s the biggest story that he missed but also because, had luck not been on his side, he would have been among the dead.

“I was given the go-ahead to cover the match as a commentator by the chairman (of FAZ) but while the cost of the flight would have been covered by the association, I was to be on my own in Senegal where the World Cup qualifier was to take place. I got delayed in arranging the money for the trip and missed that flight by half an hour,” said Macha who is in Goa with the Zambian national team for a friendly against India.

The entire contingent was travelling on board a Zambian Air Force DHC-5D Buffalo jet to Senegal for the World Cup qualifier when it plunged into the Atlantic Ocean following.

The tragedy of April 28, 1993 took the lives of 18 players, three team officials, four FA officials, and five crew members.

“That crash killed not just the members of the Zambian football team that year but also killed Zambian football. We haven’t recovered from that crash till date,” said Macha according to times of India.

As per the first paragraph above, he has been referred to as a ‘former international’. That would mean he once played for the national team. Either they misrepresented what he said or he was lying.

Tumfweko, you even failed to spell his name correctly. He is NOT Macha, but Masha. The author of this article needs to go back to school. Pathetic!
