Zambia THUMP SA at COSAFA U20 5-1

Tumfweko names Under-20 as 'TUPOLOPOLO'..here In Training !

There has been yet more disappointment for the South African junior sides after the Under-20 team were thumped 5-1 by Zambia in their final 2011 Metropolitan COSAFA Under-20 Youth Championships Group C game in Botswana on Tuesday.

The result means the Zambians breezed into the semifinals, while South Africa, who needed a win to advance, finished third in the pool behind Tanzania.

It was a desperately disappointing result for Solly Luvhengo’s men following hard on the heels of the national Under-23 side’s elimination from the 2012 London Olympics qualifiers at the weekend.

Zambia opened the scoring midway through the first half when Evans Kangwa, set to join South African side Orlando Pirates in the coming days, took advantage of some hesitant defending to toe-poke the ball home.

That was the way it stayed until the 57th minute when more poor defending allowed Ronald Kampamba to intercept a backpass and score. And it was 3-0 two minutes later when Shadreck Malambo netted to put the result beyond doubt.

Kangwa got his second just two minutes after that as the scoreline took on an embarrassing look for the South Africans, before Sanele Khuzwayo added a consolation from the spot for the South Africans.

But there was more to come from Young Chipolopolo when Kampamba got his second and Zambia’s fifth just before the end.

Zambia now advance to Thursday’s semifinals, where they will take on Malawi, who won Group B.

I have all the praise for our U20′s after watching the game for the full 93minutes (including the 3 mins added on). Despites their flow of the game being disrupted by the unstable playing surface, the coach was so clever to have resorted to long balls from the backline to a sharp and ever awake strike force.

LESSONS FOR THE SENIOR TEAM FROM THE U20′s

    1. The boys have developed an exceptionally good skill of taking very long THROW-INS,which are aimed very accurately at their target men (more like Stoke City).

    2. They never allow the opponent to play his own game (NOT BEING REACTIVE TO THE OPPONENT’S STYLE & TEMPO OF THE GAME)

    3. How ever big the score margin in their favour, THEY NEVER STOP SCORING OR ATTEMPTING AT GOAL UNTIL THE LAST WHISTLE (The senior team has this weakness of easily giving away a lead – remember these boys came from behind to draw 3-3 against Tanzania!)

    4. There defence has drastically improved from what they displayed in against Tanzania – meaning they have a coach that reads his game well!

CONGRATS BOYS!! Such goal margins are very important for sending shivers to your subsequent opponents, and this is the attitude we expect from CHIPOLOPOLO AT AFCON!!!

mike ma bro, we do not tend to grasp the crux here. how many under 20s have we seen shine at such tournaments only to easily fade away there after? why? we all know that those chaps are well above 20 and yet we bury our heads in the sand and pretend all is okay. ask patrick phiri or peter kaumba about age cheating in this country. only nigeria and ivory coast beat us. essien and martins are a very good example on this. as zambians, we should be honest and start featuring real under 20s and then we will see long term brnefits and not these short celebrations we are subjected to.
