COMESA Building in Flames. Pictures by Courtesy of qfm

COMESA Building offices in Lusaka was/is this early hours of friday 12/9 around 00:30 hrs heavily gutted with fire.
Lusaka fire fighters who arrived late at the scene had a tough time quenching the fire as they run out of water hence halting the proceeds for some time in order them to draw more water.
The COMESA building offices which are just about Kafue round-about are still in flames up to now around 04hrs.
Billions of Kwacha in property has been lost.
All Papers with vital information and documents which were not put on the computer network has been lost.
It is not clear whether back up documentation of info were made and whether they were kept at the premises.
Tumfweko has not yet established the cause of the fire as investigations are underway.

Will keep you posted of any development to that regard…

Lusaka city council should be questioned for not proper inspections for on the buildings. i say so because it is mandatory for any property owner to have cirtain requirments in the building and without those things the council should come in and close that particular building without notice. suppose it was during the day how many lives were going to be lost or injured? we need to be serious with the way we conduct our business. Please the following councils should do their work proffessionary without bending to the customer cries in their respective fileds:- Environmental Council of Zambia,( we have a lot of polution in the city), Lusaka City Council, Examination of Zambia and other authorities in charge of things in the city should not wait for a calamity that is when they react without penalising the offender.

Its sad that infrastructure is being destroyed like that but the fire service leaves much to be desired…with Zambia having lots of water bodies in the whole Southern Africa why should they fail to put off the fire without a refill. The city is growing so should they,Damn!

President Sata must resign for failure to keep campaign promises. See story below

Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, 63, acknowledged that his departure was spurred by the failure to keep a campaign promise to move the U.S. base on the southern island of Okinawa, home to more than half the 47,000 U.S. troops stationed in Japan.

If fire breaks out in a tall building in Lusaka you just have to watch it burn, LCC needs to buy more fire engines!!

I am sick and tired of our Fire Fighters always coming to the scene of the fire without water! Why did fire fighters come late and without adequate water on the scene and yet they are located 2 kilometers from COMESA? Twasebana ba Lusaka City Council (LCC). That building houses very important institutions of the World! Someone should resign at LCC and/or Local Government, over this scandal or else Zambia will never improve its Public Services Delivery to the people.

I am sorry about the fire in COMESA but i think your
going to start again from your first office. God
loves you and your family but nobody died in your
office luckily and we all have God to thank for continuously watching over us.
