WITNESSES Tell Court “MUTETEKA Offered Us BRIBES In Return For VOTES ”
WITNESSES have testified that Movement for Multi party democracy MMD Chisamba Member of Parliament Moses Muteteka offered them bribes in return for votes.
Joyce Chiyabi a witness alleges that Mr. Muteteka gave her an Airtel promotional mobile phone while asking for votes in the runner up to the September 20th tripartite elections.
Ms. Chiyabi of Muntoyo area in Chisamba Constituency said this at the commencement of the election petition hearing.
And a Kabwe Police officer says he had received an offer to purchase a government house he had not applied for, hours before the September 20 general elections.
Appearing before Lusaka high court judge Albert Wood, Ms. Chiyabi narrated that was given a gift from Mr. Muteteka, a day before the elections.
She further told the court that in the run up to the general election, Mr. Muteteka was among the politicians that went to Muntoyo village to canvass for votes from the electorate.
Ms. Chiyabi also said that during a public meeting held in Muntoyo on September 18, 2011, Mr. Muteteka had begged for forgiveness for not meeting his earlier campaign promises when he was elected MP in 2006.
She said the people reminded Mr. Muteteka of his unfulfilled promises of building a clinic and a school in the area.
She further stated that the Chisamba MP invited the electorate to Chipokota lodge in Chisamba area were he was dishing out gifts to them.
This is a matter where losing parliamentary contenders in the September 20, 2011 Chisamba Constituency elections have petitioned the election of Moses Muteteka as Chisamba MP.
