REPUBLICAN President Michael Sata has with immediate effect axed Secretary to the Cabinet Dr Joshua Kanganja.
President Sata has since thanked Dr Kanganja for the service he rendered to the country.
Sata however said, should need arise, Dr Kanganja will be consulted.
Dr Kanganja was recently put to task by republican President Michael Sata over the allegedly signing of illegal contracts by the 28 defense generals during the corrupt-tag-MMD regime.
He has served in the three government adminstration of Late President Mwanawasa, Rupiah Banda and until his dismissal in Sata’s Patriotic Front (PF) adminstration in the position of Secretary to the cabinet.
A Cabinet Secretary is almost always a senior official (almost always a civil servant) who provides services and advice to a Cabinet of Ministers. In many countries, the position can have considerably wider functions and powers, including general responsibility for the entire civil service.

Its a pity that this man’s contract is not being renewed. He Must walk with his head high that he has served the Zambia in a very exemplary manner. I personally know him and the passion plus the drive he had to improve service delivery in the civil Service. God Bless Kanganja and our beloved Republic.

The President (the institution NOT individual) has too much power! In a democracy, the civil service is impartial hence its senior stuff aren’t political appointees but technocrats who rose through the govt machinery,as such; governor of central bank,Secretary to the cabinet etc ought to be the wheels of govt machinery and aren’t fired on the whims of the President!
The same goes for military chiefs, they are fired only in time of war where their views diverge from those of the commander-in-chief,this ain’t applicable to Zed as it isn’t at war
If there allegations of corruption then let the concerned individuals be prosecuted by the Justice Dept and NOT the President, otherwise it’s vendetta and loss of focus as the President is supposed to prioritise the economy, health, education, environment & foreign affairs!!

Dr. Kanganja did his part and conglates to him for leaving a legacy of serving three Presidents.
It is also good that the President is cautious when it comes to droping people from certain position.
It is also my considered view that more people from North Western and Southern Provinces need to be appointed to Senior Government Positions including that of Cabinet Ministers.
However, I call upon His Excellency Mr. Micheal C. Sata to consider droping Mr. Teddy Mulonga, Permanent Secretary for Labour, Youth and Sport as the man is more of a liability then an asset to Government.

North Western province is hardly in the mind of the this president for any good considerations. It is over there no one senior in this government any more from N/W as all are fired. kanganja was a statesman but here we go, he is fired. Very soon N/W chiefs may be dethroned by the cobra and his hateful pf for objecting to his lethal poisonous machnations. There is no more credible opposition to this Cobra and his Pf seeing that even MMD and UPND are not together. Look at Moses Muteteka, a silly coward who has disparaged his own party in preference to support the Pf. He is trying to buy the cobra’s favor so that he is not investigated for his shod deals in the past. the only opposition remains Zambian Watchdog, Lusaka Times and Tumfweko online news.Hope God will help you to stand and excell to save Zambia. Lifuka is rotten,so is Lee Abasonda, Father bwalya,Born tembo, and the likes. they have all gone into oblivion.

I AM AN ADVOCATE FOR THE ERADICATION OF YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT: I hope Dr. Kanganja will not be replaced with another “veteran” civil servant. Please get a suitably qualified and experienced youngish public servant for this position, and open up the lower vacancies to graduates who are sitting at home!

Shi Chilufya is doing all this within his jurisdictional capacity as republican President. I do agree that the republican President has so much power and it is a risk to the governance of the country. It is for this reason that the Technical Committee appointed to draft a new republican constitution should do an excellent job to reduce these powers, going forward…

While your heart is the right place,a senior position like Secretary to the cabinet ought to go to a veteran -at least 15 yrs experience- civil servant coz running of the govt’s machinery isn’t a task for a rookie!
For example, the current UK Secretary to the Cabinet joined the civil service in 1979,served in various capacities and was appointed to his post in 2002,hence served Blair,Brown & Cameron!
America doesn’t have a “fixed” civil service hence why each president “brings back to Washington” those who worked under similar administrations,eg Obama appointed veterans of Clinton admin and those who worked for him in Chicago! George W Bush appointed those who worked under his father and earlier…
You are right about junior posts going to (new) graduates but don’t know it works in practice given the corruption and nepotism in govt appointments ubiquitous in Africa

Ba Tumfweko ninshi ubufi? I have confirmed that HE MCS has not renewed the contract which expires 31/12/2011. You should get facts before posting these misleading stories. If not renewing a contract is synonymous to firing or sacking then would you say personal choice not to renew ones contract is the same as resigning?

Kanganja’s Dismissal does not come as a surprise.Sata has got a very negative stance against north westerners.first, to get the kick was George Kawatu, Perm Sec PSMD and ever since he took office he has been throwing blame left and right against Kanganja, accusing him of allowing a illegal appointments when all people in govt are appointed in the name and on behalf of the president, like duh was a secretary to do with those appointments.call a spade a spade,Sata is a very big tribalist, yes i have said it a TRIBALIST! not long ago he was even defending his ego that he has people who hail there like Army Commander, his personal secretary, and Kanganja himself. So which Bemba is replacing him? of all SC’s i will openly say Josua had a very open door policy, never showed himself as a boss like the Mbula’s we had. Mwanawasa chose him coz he was good at his job and brought sinity to Public Service. To Dr. you have served us well and it was an honour to work under you sir.

We all know what HE Sata is upto he will appoint a bemba or someone from Luapuala. Why has he spared Mr. Chibiliti coz he comes from Luapuala province. Please lets be fair balance appointments. the Airforce Commander a junior office coz he is the son to Chief Chismese gets promoted over other senior officers, is this fair?
When are we going to get someone who will be professional and treat all Zambians like one.
