Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) president Musa Mwenye has resigned from his position following his recent appointment as Solicitor General.
In his resignation letter dated 29th December, 2011 addressed to LAZ Honorary Secretary Paulman Chungu, made available to QFM Friday, Mr Mwenye who was sworn-in on Wednesday by President Michael Sata says though he has anxiously perused the Law and found no provision that obliges one to resign his position as LAZ president when appointed to public office, he has decided to resign as LAZ president with immediate effect.
Mr Mwenye says this is so because staying on as LAZ president would conflict with his long held belief in the independence of LAZ.
He adds that although there are barely four months before the LAZ Annual General Meeting, he is persuaded that the avoidance of even the appearance of a conflict of interest between the office of LAZ president and that of the Solicitor General necessitates the decision he has made.
Mr Mwenye has commended the Council of LAZ for the resilience shown in the most challenging times.
And LAZ Honorary Secretary Paulman Chungu in a statement released to QFM says the resignation of Mr Mwenye will be tabled at a meeting of the Council of the Law Association of Zambia which is scheduled for Friday 6th January 2012.
Mr Chungu explains that it is anticipated that after the formal process of accepting the resignation is completed and the position of president declared vacant, the Council will then proceed to elect a replacement for the position of president in terms of Rule 10(6) of the Law Association of Zambia (General) Rules of 1998.
He says LAZ wishes Mr Mwenye all the best in his new appointment and reiterates its belief that he will serve the office of Solicitor General of the Republic with Diligence and
without fear or favour.

This is no news because everyone knew this guy was a glory seeker who had always been speculated to have eyes on the post of DPP.The position he took over some important matters did demonstrate a serious lack of wisdom and personal principles.So..yes PF Mwenye ,well done for giving way for others who may be serious as President of LAZ.

mm has never been a political party supporter. he is just critical over issues he deems to be wrong. remember how he disagreed with the government over the ncc. he did so because saw it flopping at the end well before everyone realised. also remember how he took on the issue of znbc towards the death of our then lovely party . mwenye calls a as a and b as be full stop. those who are dirty have a reason to be wary of his appointment. for sure this team is deadly. thives will go in one by one.
Stand up for Zambia

Good ridance,he had become a nusance and a disgrace to the law fraternity.LAZ needs credible leadership. He is better off to start defending the utterances of his President.

Congratulations on your appointment as Solicitor General. Well done for resigning your previous position in LAZ. You served LAZ with honour at a very trying moment when MMD turned many institutions into party functionaries. You were a voice of reason. Continue to act with fairness and firmness. Mutembo, Malila and you ni bwino.

Whether you are mmd or pf, the appointment of the trio(mwenye, mutembo and malila) dubbed triple is the best appointment ever made. These three cannot be easily compromised and can’t be bought because they already have money. They are not like some lawyers who we saw condeming the corrupt mmd leaders and today they are defending the same people. That lawyer irritates me olo kutemwa ulupiya sure tefilya awe
