THE ‘battle for ZAMTEL Part 2’ will today Wednesday 1/25 be taken to the pitch when Zambia’s Chipolopolo boys meet Libya in the second match of the AFCON group A.
Herve Renard says the Chipolopolo will be looking for revenge today when they face Libyain their second Group A match.
Zambia failed to beat Libyaover two legs in the qualifiers with the best result being a draw in the last of the qualifiers at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola after losing 1-0 in the earlier fixture.
Renard told a pre-match briefing that he was aiming for the top spot in the group.
Ironically it was the Libya game that cost his predecessor Dario Bonetti his job.
“Zambia didn’t beat them during the qualification and we have to get the revenge and to win the game tomorrow (Today 1/25),” he said.
“This is a reflection of the fans, like I said before the first game; there is no game more important than the other Senegal,Libya and Equatorial Guinea. All three games are to get qualification.”
He added: “Our only target is to qualify and if we are able to finish top like in 2010, then it would be perfect.”
He reserved some respect for his opponents, “Libya played a good game, and they made just one mistake in the last five minutes. They were strong and well organized but I think we have the skills and abilities to destabilize this team and I hope tomorrow we will be able to do that.”
And Libya coach Marcos Paqueta said his team knew that defeat against Zambia would end their campaign.
“There are two scenarios in this game, we lose we are out, we win, we are still in with a chance,” Paqueta said.
Zambia tops the Group on three points alongside Equatorial Guinea who beatLibya1-0 in the opening fixture.
A win for the Chipolopolo will guarantee them qualification to quarter finals with a game to spare.ZambiabeatSenegal2-1 in the opening game thanks to first half goals from Emmanuel Mayuka and Rainford Kalaba.
