INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Martin Malama has revealed that former President Rupiah Banda’s son, Henry, recently spotted in Johannesburg, is now in Kenya and warned him to own up rather than continue playing hide-and-seek with the law.
Dr Malama said Henry’s ‘hide-and -seek’ games have dire consequences and he has since asked him to give himself up to avoid further trouble with the police and stop frustrating their efforts to do their work.
The IG said Henry will be assured of a fair investigation and trial thereafter because Zambia is not a kangaroo court.
“Henry is being a fugitive unnecessarily. Let him come back home and appear before a team of investigators so that justice can prevail,” Dr Malama said.
Dr Malama said police are making fresh arrangements to have Henry brought back because the wanted man has left the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to East Africa where the jurisdiction is different from the one initially used to hunt him down in South Africa with SAPCO and Interpol help.
“Zambia is a country of laws and we believe in the independence of the Judiciary. It’s not a kangaroo court that will try him (Henry) but our competent courts of law,” Dr Malama said.
He said Henry has judged himself by continuing to run from one country to the other at an evidently huge financial cost.
Dr Malama said Zambia is a civilised country that respects the law and that Henry will be accorded fair treatment when he shows up.
“We want to ask him (Henry) questions but his running around is causing concern to everyone including his family,” he said.
Dr Malama said the Zambia Police Service will now spread its contacts to security wings outside the SADC region.
“Tomorrow (today) we are contacting security wings outside the SADC to help us with this issue,” he said.
Dr Malama said there are institutions that will protect Henry once he comes back home to answer some questions which a team of investigators have for him.
“There is justice in Zambia. There is absolutely no need for Henry to be on the run,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) has said the immunity of former President Banda should only be lifted once there is enough evidence of his misdeeds.
ZEC president Ignatius Chama said at a press conference at Kapingila House in Lusaka yesterday that there is need to expose the corrupt activities which Mr Banda is alleged to have engaged in while in power.
He said evidence will justify calls from a cross section of society to have Mr Banda’s immunity removed.
Archbishop Chama said it will be unnecessary to remove Mr Banda’s immunity without making public the alleged ‘illegal’ activities that he engaged in.
“The cry about lifting the immunity of past Presidents arises because some people feel there were some illegal actions they committed while in power.
“But the best way to facilitate the removal of Mr Banda’s immunity is to expose the truth concerning the illegal activities for all Zambians to see,” Archbishop Chama said.
He said when it is proved that Mr Banda was engaged in corrupt activities, the law should take its course.

We are here to clean the dirt and then start on a new note. So I am hereby calling on the thugs and those who stole during RBs tenure of office that you just have to bring back whatever you took from the treasury. Henry’s running, can George and Musokotwane comment please, because the dual have been bussy accusing the PF government of being vindictive in their fight against corruption. Is this witch-hunt? why should someone who hasn’t committed any wrong be running from pillar to post? Not until such characters are dealt with seriously would our Nation develop! when you are in Office its no time to steal but do the right and remember that there are so many people out there who do not even have were to sleep, what to eat! they live in abject poverty! ensure to maintain the tenets of the “COMMON GOOD” hold fast to your integrity, be faithful to yourself and to the people who have entrusted you with their wealth!

Henry Banda, come back to mother Zambia. You are innocent until proven guilt. If you continue to play hide and seek with the police, you will be calling for the removal of your father’s immunity faster than it should be. You will also be heightening the worries of those accused with you like Dora Siliya. Be brave man and face the law directly.

Henry is guilty, until he is proven innocent. He thought he was above the law and now’s below the law this mambala.
He’s running away, please lets catch this Henry so that he can fairly face the law.
Atleast Simba was brave enough to come and face the wrath of Scar.
Wether he runs off like a cockrouch, sooner or later he will be caught and face justice. He’s been having sleepless nights and I wonder for how long?
Henry just own up man, you can not run away from Lusaka to Lusaka because every dog has its own day.
He will soon exhaust his hidding places. It will be like Jean Claude Van Dame movie…No Where To Run!

the guilty are always afraid. all other MMD leaders who are suspected to have abused their offices are attending “hearings”, so why is this guy on the run…? measn that he knows what he did. his hands are soiled. they say you can run but you cant hide. where is saviour chungu who trotted around the globe for years and ended up broke and wishes to have a PS job now in the government after all those billions he spent around the world running from his shadow….?
