BIG Mouths Of The 2012 AFCON

The 2012 Cup of Nations has been a memorable one for the football on the pitch as well as the words said off it.

What often makes the tournament so entertaining is the dramatic words that players or coaches use pre and post-match.

Here are some of the 2012 Afcon’s greatest quotes so far.

Gervinho (Cote d’Ivoire):
“Drogba has been our great motivator. He never stops reminding us that we are here to win the tournament, no matter the hurdles, no matter the game form and no matter the score margin. His talks and desires have been inspirational and have turned the atmosphere within the team to be very convivial.”

Cheik Tiote (Cote d’Ivoire):
“We have great players so we have to win something; we have to win this Cup of Nations. Every time there is an African tournament people tell us that we are favourites to win. But when you look at our trophy cabinet there is nothing there. Absolutely nothing.”

Demba Ba (Senegal):
“Success will come for us, of that I have no doubt. Often you can close your eyes, hit and score. Sometimes you try every trick in the book but the ball refuses to go in.”

Phenyo Mongala (Botswana):
“We have disappointed but we have learnt our lesson.”

Herve Renard (Zambia coach):
“Sakuwaha is more important than Zambia? Me, I don’t care about the name of the player. The player has to show me what he can do and the determination.”

Herve Renard:
“Everything is possible in football, yes we are not among the favourites but we can pull a surprise and win the cup. All we need is hard work and commitment”

John Mensah (Ghana):
“We are sorry for the whole of Ghana for what happened. We gave everything that we could. It’s unlucky that we lost this game. We promise them we will come back strongly next year.”

El Haji Diouf (ex-Senegal player):
“I predicted the failure of Senegal at the 2012 Afcon and it has happened. The FA people are jealous of Senegal’s 2002 generation. They don’t want to associate us with the team. Some of us have experience”

I just want to advise Erick Mwanza to avoid despiting people that did not support/approve the engagement of Harve Renard.Alot of Zambians were against but this time they are happy and jubilating the good performance of Zambia. What he did to Makembo in equatorial Guinea by ejecting him from wherever it is; as reported on ZNBC is an acceptable at this point intime when our team is doing fine at the AFCON tournament. Football is and shpuld be unifying factor with our enemies and every Zambian has a right to support it as we have only one team to support; the Chipolopolo boys. The success of the Chipolopolo boys is for the entire Zambia i.e the ruling PF and oppositions despite diffrent ideals and views in politics. We have not crossed the river yet we need unity and one spirit from every Zambian in supporting our Team for us to cross the Limpompo on sunday with one heart to get the AFCON CUP.

To be realistic, I can’t connect the title of the article with what is being said. When you say Big mouths of the Afcon, i would expect to find bad comments by the so called giants. The guys are realistic and fair. Why call them big mouths? this leaves much to be disired as a person reading this article.

@Gervinho be careful with the praise u give that Drogba thing we know hez a good player but u might find urselves worshiping him. I also agree with Herve (Zambia Coach) we re not among the favourites but when God says “yes” impossibles becomes possible.

I for one was against Renard coming back owing to the way he ditched the team and by the time he was being called we had already qualified. Otherwise we are fully behind him and the entire team. Erick mwanza is very dull elo amoneka kwati talandile bwangu kubwaice as such brain tayafunguluka

To Herve, I can say Good job so far. Am no Bemba but Bembas say “wiponta ukabwela” He is back after insulting our team is it in Angola.

Also the coach for Equatorial Guinea said something to this effect. “Zambia is the weakest team in our group. We can rather accept to be defeated by any other team but not Zambia” What happenned? The so called weakest team is in the FINALS after beating them also in their home ground.
The Supersport analysts have been talking rubbish about our team even to the extent of saying, “They are undernourished” We have shut their mouths.
Lets be happy that we have support from South Africa, Namibia, Congo, Malawi, Tanzania even Gabon itself and many many countries too numerous to mention including one person from Afhaganistan are behind Chipolopolo. In short the whole world is spiritually behind Chipolopolo. Sometimes I fail to understand. God is trying to say something. Watch this space

-I was just checking the dictionary, and the phrase ‘bigmouth’ (a ‘big mouthed’ person) means “noisy”, “disrespectful”, or “boastful” person.
-the tittle and the body are talking about different things alltogether.

It pays to be looked at as an underdog because the giants then tend to be careless thereby giving an opportunity to the underdog to pull a quick one and surprise the masses. Our Team is now World Cup Material no doubts as long as FAZ remains orderly!

My appeal to all those cerebrating eccetrically, please realise that life is more precious than the afcon victory. We are all happy but with modesty. The police must also be on the lookout for those fictitious ‘supporters’ who are blocking roads demanding money from drives and passengers.

OF COURSE NO SINGLE PLAYER IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ZAMBIA, BUT SAKUWAHA HAS ALOT TO OFFER. RENARD SHOULD ADMIT THAT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER STARTER PERHARPS THAN CHAMANGA IN THE GHANA GAME. ALL IN ALL, I’D NOT WANT ANY PLAYER OR ANY OTHER PERSON IN THE ZAMBIAN DELEGATION TO FEEL MARGINALISED. GO ZAMBIA GO!!! THIS IS OUR TIME!!!

Ridgeway Liwena is a useless soccer analyst who doesnt understand the meaning of the word “predict”. Before Zambia hammered Sudan Hammer Ten Ten asked him to predict the match to which he refused based on the reason that Sudan was equally strong and that anything could happen in football. Right. However after Sudan was punished the visibly dissapointed self-ordained soccer pundit mumbled that Zambia had an easy passage in the tourney so far! No wonder Hammer Ten Ten never brought him back on the panel of soccer analysts.

DROGBA IS NOTHING BUT JUST A PLAYER WHO HAS A GOOD CV & CAN SCORE IF GIVEN A CHANCE WITHIN 18.GUYS WE ONLY NEED SOMEONE TO FRUSTRATE HIM.HE CAN B A god TO OTHERS BUT NOT TO US.ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IN THE NAME OF FOOTBALL. I TELL YOU ZAMBIA IS A GOOD TEAM,THAT IS A REASON IT HAS REACHED THE FINALS.BY THE WAY,GHANA IS FAR MUCH BETTER THAN IVORIAN ACCORDING TO FIFA RANKING.ITS ONLY A SMALL BULLET OF COPPER (ZAMBIA) THAT CAN CRACK A BIG ELEPHANT. GO BOYS GO GO BOYS GO GO GO FORWARD.

Whatever the results, Zambia National Football Team will leave a historical mark to teach most soccer analysts that every tournament is unique.Let us not stop talking about favourites in any tournament.
