BREAKING NEWS!! MMD De-Registered As Political Party

The Movement for Multi Party Democracy-MMD has been de-registered by the Registrar of Societies for non compliance with the Societies Act.

Chief Registrar of Societies, Clement Andeleki says this means the former ruling party ceases to operate as a political party in Zambia and it has lost all the fifty three seats in parliament.

Mr. Andeleki says the action arises from the non payment of statutorily fees amounting over three hundred and ninety million Kwacha.

He made the announcement at a press briefing at the Ministry of Home Affairs Headquarters this morning.

Mr. Andeleki says the decision has been taken after several reminders from the time the MMD was in government.

And Mr Andeleki says he will be writing to the Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini to inform him about the de-registration of the MMD.

He has warned erring registered organisations, Churches, NGOs and political parties to be legally compliant with the Societies Act if they are to continue operating in Zambia.

I hope we not moving into the one party state system. MMD was pretty useless in power, but it had begun to offer valid checks and balances to the party in power. Anyway all the best to MMD members.

Why can’t the fifty three members of parliament contribute eight million each to serve their jobs?

Honestly speaking this move is not a good one, lets pray that nothing bad will come out of this action. The PF should also know that whatever they are doing is been recorded by the same pipo they are ruling and their own time to pay back will SOON and VERY SOON COME!!!!

This legally may be correct but surely it will be to expensive for the government to hold 53 by elections. This reminds me parliament has to be dissolved coz 2/3.

This is quite some development! Is there any written proof to show that several reminders were sent even when the MMD was in power? If so, may you show us this evidence. Otherwise, it could be the PF government behind all this.

  21. THE SAINT

    March 14, 2012 at 2:04 pm

The MMD has died from within. The general secretaries from 1991 to 2001 are all outside the MMD and have been the cause of this problem.
Next, President Sata’s government will arrest HH and set him on a the path of a long legal battle, so that he will not be able to sperintend his party UPND. While HH will be distracted, PF will plant moles in UPND and this will lead to the absorption of UPND into PF through the revival of the pact initially and then dissolution. Remember Nevers’ NCC? By 2016, will have arrived at 1976! One small step for PF, one giant leap backward for Zambia.
All Zambians who have the nation’s interest at heart must not allow this scenario to go on.

Is this the result of the petitions the PF has been losing? Whatever it is its not good for democracy and the country. The money that will be used to organize these bye elections could have been used on something better.

this is politically motivated, has PF been paying the fees. The country is headed towards a dictatorship kind of governance.lets wait and see.Sata just cant face being opposed.he was in opposition for a decade yet he can’t stand being opposed in just 5 months.whether we like it or not, this is politically motivated.the opposition were providing checks and balances to the govt which is very good for zambia.now we are in for it.soon the 2016 general elections will be called off.

If this is what we voted PF into power for, than we are heading towards a very big political disater. Zambians be cautious with PF. These pipo are extremely power hungery. They will do anything to frustrate other political players. I believe there other political parties including PF who have not paid their so called staturoliy fees. Watch out for Sata and his team.

All you guys supporting such a retrogressive move should have your heads examined. One by-election costs not less than K2bn. 53 seats nullified results in not less than K106bn from our meagre resources. Now does it make any economic sense to deregister a party for owing us K390m and end up losing a collosal K106bn?? Can someone answer me now.
