Malawi To Mend Relationship With Zambia, Donor Countries

“A friend in need is a friend indeed, and this case Zambia is our friend in need and indeed, we all know about that” That’s Malawi’s newly sworn in President Joyce Banda who says is currently negotiating with Zambian President Micheal Sata to mend bi lateral relationship between the tow countries.
This follows a sour relationship between Sata and the Malawis former Bingu Wa Mutharika’s government, following the deportation of the Zambian President in Malawi when he was in opposition.
The Mutharika’s government deported Sata who was reportedly visiting the Malawi’s former President Bakili Muluzi, at Chichiri airport on claims that he was illegal immigrant.
However, the Malawi government was ashamed when the one it was claiming that was an Illegal Immigrant took over the Zambian government, and this led to sour relationship between the two governments.
But four days after taking over government, Banda who was a major enemy of the former government to a press conference at her residence in the Capital Lilongwe that that apart from addressing economic and political issues in the country she has already started negotiating with neighboring countries and donors who were at par with Malawi to forgive it and mantain the relationship.
“I have just been talking to the Zambian President my brother Micheal Sata to forgive us and that we should maintain our bi lateral relationship, and the interesting thing is that he has welcomed the development with excitement.
“We all know that Zambia being our neighbor we cant be at par. i have also been talking to the Tanzanian President and donor countries who cut off aid to Malawi due to bad governance, and let me announce here that the negotiations are going on well”, said the Women’s rights activist President Banda.
Her efforts to revamp bilateral and multilateral relationships comes at a time when Malawians are expecting her to transform the country’s economy and dirty politics.
“I will make sure that things in Malawi gets to normal by not allowing any malpractices, and this being a big task i want to request the civil society, the opposition and all Malawians that we should all work together to develop our country”, she added.
Meanwhile, the President has established strong security in the country’s borders to bar former government misters and other government officials who are reportedly looting some government resources as most of her critics have started hiding and others trying to flee the country.

I wonder what relations were broken and need mending. The Malawian embassy is fully functional in Zambia and the same with the Zambian embassy in Malawi. I have also been going into Malawi and back without any diplomatic challenges. The broken relations are more percieved than real. Mama Banda just concentrate on building your relations with emperial powers so that you stabilise your currency and ensure steady flow of fuel and not waste time on percived differences with Zambia.
