Zambia are targetting to play high-profile South African Premiership clubs in training matches before their 2014 World Cup Group D qualifiers in June.
Football Association of Zambia communications officer Erick Mwanza said they are no plans to play any full international game when the African champions go into camp in Johannesburg on May 25.
“We can assure you that the team will have intensive preparations and we are looking at playing top clubs in South Africa before we fly to Sudan,” Mwanza said.
“It will be difficult to fly a national team into South Africa and play a match because there will be no FIFA sanctioned date before the qualifiers.”
Zambia will face Sudan in the two sides opening Group D opener on June 2 in Khartoum before hosting Ghana in Ndola on June 9.
Meanwhile, Herve Renard is next week expected to name his list of home-based players that will go into camp in Lusaka on May 15 ahead of the doubleheader.

When we have FIFA official dates, we are told we will not play anyone. when we now want to play other national teams, suddenly we are told these are not official FIFA dates! What is happening? God help us…

FAZ should realise that we are expecting alot from them and we hope this year’s Afcon Victory does not go to their heads where they assume that all will be rosy after playing South African clubs. You needed to have played international friendlies with countries that challenge your opponents for you to effectively assess your performance especially that we are likely to have some new faces in the team.Hoping you know what you are doing. Viva Chipolopolo.

@Independent Observer well said brother i totally concur with you it’s like the afcon win has gotten some much into our heads to the extent of thinking we can beat any team without proper training. FAZ please watch out.

“ONE of Zambia’s opponents in the World Cup 2014 Qualifiers, Sudan claims they have now grown strong enough to beat the African Champions so badly that FAZ will have no option but to fire Coach Herve Renard.”This is what their coach is saying.
This must be taken seriously by the organizers of our friendly matches as every country is looking forward to beating the Chipolopolo Team.

FAZ should organise BIG friendly matches, not with clubs but with teams like EGYPT,remember the FIFA rankings counts the friendlies
