2012 Gabon Disaster Memorial : ” What Is For K200 Thousand” Mrs Peggy Mwape

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya’s K200, 000 donation to the families of the 30 deceased shocked attendees of the 19th Gabon Air Disaster anniversary.

Bwalya’s much hyped attendance proved stealthy as he arrived earlier ahead of the families and left before the families had gathered to commence the ceremony. One of the widows, Mrs Peggy Mwape said, ” We are not so happy with what the president (Kalusha Bwalya) has done, he could have consulted us, he came here ahead of us. I understood that he left some money to give us to use for  talk time, honestly,   K200 thousand?

We have survived  without any help from FAZ ,  without any penny from FAZ even without any wreath how come he can come and give us money?  We don’t even  need it,  what we need it is the report to be out. The previous governments have failed us, we are asking the new government to release the report failure to that  I , myself  have  all the power to exhume my husband’s body and to burry him at my  place where I do stay at the farm. It is pointless to be here every year and getting nothing.”

Kalusha Bwalya went to the memorial site before the families arrived and left the money with some officials to distribute before he drove off to avoid the families.

Govt should save its people fairly. These people have been crying to know what happened and yet govt gives them no answer. We the people help you get were you are and yet you slap us in the face.

That is an insult to the bereaved families!what is K200,000 really????Its a stab in the back and humiliation of our fallen heroes. As Bana mwape said!keep your money! You can surely show some respect and honour after winning the afcon, the families deserve a break!!!After all there is a prize for the afcon winners in form of real money.

For starters, why did he (kalu) avoid the widows? Learn 2 put yoselves in other people’s shoes. Kalu wat if it was u who died in that plane? Give them the report. They deserve to know wat transpired.

Great kalu, why should you play hide and seek with mourning families??Why cant you face the widows and orphans of our fallen heroes???They want answers on how their loved ones perished.Answers on how a national team was given a malfunctioning zaf plane to travel in???.What transpired? They need a report and not K200,000.Its not about money, keep yr small change and get yrself some airtime.

A big challenge to mr ibu sata,s gov . can you tell your felow bembas how you managed to wipe out their husbands from the face of the earth, mr sata ukwa ibu was in gov then and now he has recycled him self, he is the acticting president until 2016 if at all he will reach that far, so he is the right person to tell this bembas how he killed their spouces in 1993, let the bemba led pf gov and mr ibu sata tell the zambians how they killed those bembaz. chao

There is a saying that,”Ushitasha patunono napafingi pene takatashe.” K200,000.00 is a lot of money. He did not say you should survive on that. People should appreciate that some good amounts of money has been given to the families before. And we know too well that some of the widows ended up just misbehaving using the same money. Mrs Mwape should understand that all of us are state property, more so the dead. Its an abuse to exume the dead and rebury them elsewhere. It could have been better if the report was made available immediately after the crash, but now it may just bring a lot of pain and anguish. TB Joshua said the Nation which is going to win the 2012 afcon will win because they have gone through too much pain and God wants them to be happy and cry no more. Please let us learn to forgive and forget because our thoughts are not God’s thoughts and our plans not His plans.

I think we are asking Kalu to do more than he should. Releasing the Gabon report is defnately not the resposibility of Kalu. Direct your requests to the right wings of Government. May the soul of the departed rest in peace!

KALU HAS LITTLE OR NO CONTROL OVER THE RELEASE OF THE REPORT. THE PLANE CRASH WAS A NATIONAL DISASTER. THE GOVT IS THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RELEASE OF THE REPORT. KALU MAY JUST FACILITATE. HE CAN GO JUST UP TO A CERTAIN POINT. THAT REPORT HAS ALOT OF THINGS PUTTING THE GOVT AT FAULT AND THEY JUST CANT GIVE IT OUT FEARING OPENING OLD WOUNDS. CHACHINE UMULANDU TAUBOLA. THE WHOLE TRUTH WILL COME OUT ONE DAY.
KALU USED TO FACE TOUGH DEFENDERS BUT HE COULD NOT FACE THOSE RELATIVES OF THE LATE PLAYERS.
ITS TIME AND TIME IS NOW FOR FAZ THRU KALU TO INTRODUCE INSURANCE WITH DEATH BENEFITS FOR PLAYERS AT CLUB LEVEL. THIS WILL AVOID SIMILAR SITUATIONS IN FUTURE. THERES NO AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT WILL CONFORT THE RELATIVES OF THE DEPARTED. GOVT HAS BEEN HIDING FROM ITS ONE FINGER.

It is better than nothing. The majority of the Zambians have never even received any money for anything. If the first compensation had been put to good use or earn bank interest they would not be complaining, obviously that was not the case.

What is so special about the widows of those who died in the Gabon air disarsters. So many people died fighting for Zambia’s independence. Other have lost their lives underground digging copper-Zambia’s forex earner. Their widows are not pestering GRZ for money and reports. Besides, the Gabon report is highly sensitive. For Mrs Mwape, what will she do if she finds her ‘husband’s grave’ empty? Please find something to occupy yourselves with before the devil invests in you. Viva Kalu!

Death takes anyone, no matter how special or useless you are.!!!we all at one time have lost our loved ones, but for life’s sake, we just have to carry on without them. It’s God’s secret to nature.
1970 Mufulira mine Disaster, 92 Zambian miners lost their lives, working to build a better Zambia for all.Their spouses and children wept and carried on with life. Weren’t these miners special too?

FAZ have said over and over that they will be active every five yrs starting next yr on this issue.Kalu was there last year and this yr in his personal capacity and NOT as FAZ chief.Did he give the money on behalf of FAZ or from his personal resources?

  36. Gertrude Mwape

    April 29, 2012 at 8:02 pm

Kalu should have addressed the families and explained to them just what FAZ is able to do and what it can’t. It’s true that many people have died serving the nation but the crucial thing about this case is the release of the report. Moreover, each time people in the country refer to the Gabon air disaster such as when the Chipopolo won the AFCON tournament, memories come back afresh. All stakeholders should work together and find an amicable solution. Condemning the families will not do. There’s a reason why they are still upset.

    People think.
It’s not the responsibility of Kalu to release the report. That’s government’s sole responsibility.
    Kalu may have left because:
    1. It’s always an emotional event for him. He was very close to those guys. Meeting the families may worsen the situetion for him.
    2. He had no answers for the families because even kimself doesn’t know what happened.

Do tou people think the governmaent has told Kalu what happend?

Even the money he gave was just away of heartfelt condolences.

Are the people calling for the release of the Gabon Disaster Report interested in just knowing what happened or do they intend to react? Am fearful of some people opening Pandora’s box. Whatever happened, let sleeping dogs lie!
Its making me think that some people did not celebrate the AFCON victory wit us because it was won by other peoples’ husbands

the report never comes out, something fishy. I think, the military plane was gunned down, probably because of failure on the government not announcing to the relevant people on the other side that they would use a military plane. Or some kind of pirates shot it down.

    April 30, 2012 at 8:25 am

In the first place it is not the responsibility of Kalusha Bwalya to pay the families of the Gabon Disaster, it is the responsibility of the Government.
It means whatever came from Kalusha Bwalya pocket must be appreciated not matter how small. Mrs Mwape should take on Government on this issue and not Kalusha.

  50. Ine

    April 30, 2012 at 8:45 am

My view is that this national “celebration” should simply come to an end especially that its 19 years ago. Let it be a personal family affair. About compensation all these widows etc were compensated in the 90s. Its just that the money is finished. They surely need to move on and find other things to do. The report is not necessary at this stage as it will CHANGE NOTHING.
