Government has signed a 355 million United States Dollars approximately K1.8 trillion compact with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) for the improvement of water, sanitation and drainage systems in Lusaka.
Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda signed on behalf of the Zambian government while Daniel Johannes signed on behalf of the MCC.
The compact is expected to improve the lives of about 1 million people in Lusaka through the provision of improved water reticulation system and Alleviation of water borne diseases.
Gracing the occasion in Lusaka today, Republican Vice President Guy Scott paid tribute to the American government stating that the compact will greatly contribute to the economy of the country by improving the lives of people.
Dr. Scott said the Patriotic Front government is committed to providing basic necessities for the majority Zambians.
And Finance minister Alexander Chikwanda said the compact is the highest in the water and drainage systems since the country’s Independence.
Mr. Chikwanda explained that the projects to be supported through the compact will assist in increasing access to and improving the reliability of water supply and drainage systems in selected Urban and peri-urban areas of Lusaka.
He added that losses of water through the inefficient water supply network will be reduced and that Zambians will benefit from the sub projects that will arise in the water supply sanitation and drainage infrastructure construction.
In delivering his keynote speech, Millennium Challenge Account Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Johannes said the MCC investments can only be sustainable if they are driven by the benefiting countries.
Mr. Johannes said the compact agreement is expected to have a meaningful impact on the lives of Zambian people by improving their health and economic productivity.
He urged the private sector and the civil society to increase their participation in the water sanitation and drainage sectors adding that the fight against poverty transcends politics.
The Millennium Challenge Corporation was created by the United States Congress in January 2004 with strong bipartisan support and is funded by the American taxpayers to support country led solutions for reducing poverty through sustainable economic growth.
The MCC supports poor countries that are committed to good governance, economic freedom and investments in their Citizens.

That is what the Zambian citizens are waiting to see realised. We have had enough of personal publicities intended to make the Nation hope for what will never come. This time we are not dumb, we are watching every word, and words must coincide with posed actions.

Twice Ive wasted my vote on PF & Sata but Im glad that mistake wont be repeated ever again! I thought I’d voted for real change but it seems somethings will just never change e.g cadres politicising everything the government does, empty campaign promises by PF, unnecessary hiring & firing of government workers. . .the list just goes on! I was tired of MMD & Ruppia & I was so glad to see his back. HH, well he just doesnt inspire me at all so I was left stuck with the best ‘bad choice’ PF! Arrogant cadres preaching tribalism while uttering the empty slogan ‘one Zambia one nation’. Comedy of errors indeed.

The 1 greatest mistake that the pf made was not to explain to the voters the process of the promissed change. Maybe they put everything in their 90 days. All shallow minded voters expected new roads, more jobs, more school, more hospitals, more teachers & nurses and low fuel prices within 90 days. Reality must have opened the eyes of both Sata’s pf & the voter that the wheels of change are controlled by the system not by campaigs. Even this compact signed is for years & not 90 days. It would be prudent for Usofia in State house to say ‘kanshi ifi fintu filakokola but twalabomba ukwabula ukwiba & for intended purposes’

I agree wit u Kuzipa, any political party that comes seems to concentrate only on Lsk.
Zambia does not jst revolve around Lsk. What about other provinces.
MCS should not forget the role copperbelt playd 4 him to win the election.
We are all stakeholders here & the cake should be shared equally. Watch out Pf! 2016.

Hali ivotela Humwenecho (HH) is full of hatred for St Micheal. That alone will not help him. He needs God’s guidance and forgiveness in his heart! He is a good young man and I like him. But look at what PF has started, it will be difficult for HH to unseat St Micheal.

@subira i agree with you, its like every party that cums to power only concetrates on lusaka at the expense of other towns and provinces. You just have to come to kabwe and see the state of township roads, water leakeges in town, its pathetic. This is why we should support the decentralisation or devolution of power component in the draft constitution so that provinces can administer for themselves, otherwise it will always be lusaka. Shame.
