Dr. Mutesa : MDG On Health, Far From Being Achieved

Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) president Fredrick Mutesa has observed that the attainment of the health related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 is far from being achieved.

Dr. Mutesa has told Qfm news in an interview that the current state of public hospitals in the country does not give hope that Zambia will meet its health MDGs with 2 years left before the deadline.

He has therefore urged government to prioritize quality health care through increased budgetary allocations.

The opposition party leader adds that most of the health infrastructure across the country remains dilapidated and that government should heed to the concerns raised by various stakeholders.

He has called for accountability in the manner funds are handled in the health sector.

Zambians think they can attain MDG’s on health by the way of ‘empty talks’ & insults. . .he he he he he! Next time your president flies out to Botswana to officiate at yet another ultra-morden school please take advantage & ask for a lift. You will see for yourself a country that is well on course to attain MDG’s not only on health but all the sectors of human development. Its time to do less talking & work hard!

Good observation Fred, attaining MDGs by 2015 is practically impossible in the sense that PF has been in government for (months) a short period of time. The previous government was not even close to do that how do u xpect the PF to attain it. Hope you re not criticizing.

Mutesa is right. But what kind of bloggers are here?Do you really know what MDGs are and what it means if you attain them?Of course it is true that we can not meet MDGs on healthy withing two years. The truth hurts but that is reality on ground although we do not need to be reminded about that.Cadres before you haul insults learn to do a bit of research on MDGs or just google, then you can post sense.

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight international development goals that all 193 United Nations member states and at least 23 international organizations have agreed to achieve by the year 2015. The goals are:
    eradicating extreme poverty and hunger,
    achieving universal primary education,
promoting gender equality and empowering women
    reducing child mortality rates,
    improving maternal health,
combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases,
    ensuring environmental sustainability, and
developing a global partnership for development.[1]

Each of the eight goals have specific stated targets and dates for achieving those targets. To accelerate progress, the G8 Finance Ministers agreed in June 2005 to provide enough funds to the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the African Development Bank (ADB) to cancel an additional $40–55 billion debt owed by members of the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) to allow impoverished countries to re-channel the resources saved from the forgiven debt to social programs for improving health and education and for alleviating poverty.
