Assistant coach Steve Komphela would take charge of South Africa’s next two matches, Independent Online reported on Tuesday morning.
“Drawing in the last 15 minutes of the game [against Ethiopia] made us realise we had to act now,” the SA Football Association (Safa) was quoted as saying in a statement.
Bafana drew 1-1 against their east African counterparts in their opening match of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in Phokeng, outside Rustenburg, on Sunday.
They face Botswana in another crucial qualifying fixture in Gaborone on Saturday, and they play Gabon in an international friendly in Johannesburg later this month.
Moroka Swallows coach Gordon Igesund has been tipped to take over from the embattled Mosimane on a permanent basis after South Africa failed to win any of their last seven matches.
Further details were expected from Safa later today.
In their statement issued early this morning, Safa said its Emergency Committee held a meeting yesterday “to evaluate the performance of Bafana Bafana as a direct result of the first 2014 World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Ethiopia held on Sunday”.
The Emergency Committee “considered the reports that were tabled at the meeting and mandated SAFA Vice President Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana and the CEO of SAFA Dr Robin Petersen to hold an urgent meeting with Mr Pitso Mosimane to discuss the matter”.
This meeting was held at the Royal Marang Hotel in Phokeng near Rustenburg the same day, and “both parties agreed to part ways amicably in the best interests of both the country and the national team”.
“The Association will be indebted to Mr. Mosimane for the work he has done for SAFA since his appointment as head coach of Bafana Bafana and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
“This Association wants to place on record that Mr. Mosimane is the only coach that has assisted SAFA by donating a portion of his salary in the pursuit of the development agenda of the Association which included assisting the ex-professional football players to attend the coaching course that is currently on-going at SAFA House,” said SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani.
SAFA CEO Dr Robin Petersen said: “We appeal to the nation to also support the caretaker coach, the technical team, the players and the whole team going forward. We have entered into a crucial period of World Cup qualification and we will need all hands on deck to ensure this country gets to Brazil in 2014, as well as perform admirably at the 2013 AFCON tournament that we will host”.
Next is Renard!!
We may have to fire the entire national team. At least we know that anyone can lose or win. Is it anyone’s fault that others are better than us?
Kukosafye imwe ba mwankole.
our friends drew and fired their coach, who is renald not to be fired even after making us loose
Ba tumfweko who told so????????not yet fired.
Africa at its best! yersterday Renard was our hero he did the unthinkale by bring us the cup together with Boys obviously today pipo have already forgoten the dancing we had give room to the coach n his players just like we did wen the went to africa cup let them enjoying playing the game without any pressure
Confirmed the coach pitso has been sucked thats a shallow solution safa. renard wil be spared even wen the black stars thrash chipolopolo boyz 7:0 at new levy mwanawasa stadia take it or leave it
Mr. Igesund is top drawer – won the league with santos, sundowns, pirates & this year he almost did it with the Dube birds (moroka swallows). Its been coming for Pitso Mosimane, he just couldnt bring the success he had with supersport Utd to Bafana Bafana & he simply had to go. Long overdue!
Bafana bafana wil neva win until they pay the sangoma.he cursed them that 4 as long as they kip owing him money 4 his services, they’l never win.now they’v played 13 games wthout a single win
ha ha, @uncle rex thats funny!
A Sangoma owing SAFA money for what??juju or what??
Ba tumfweko what are doing with my postings?
Next is this ka Renard thing who has run out of ideas. Tactically outdated and incompetent. Masquerading as a coach to rob us of our hard earned kwachas. Clearly, he has successfully proved himself irrelevant to the aspirations of zambia(specifically) and Africa in general.
Nxag pitso mst go away he jst ddnt hv 1 team lyk da adaz national teams
