GOVERNMENT has recruited 3,139 teachers.
Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education acting permanent secretary Bernard Domingo announced the development at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Domingo said of the recruited staff, there are 757 high school teachers and 2,382 basic school teachers.
From the selected teachers, 1,593 are male while 1,546 are female.
All the selected teachers are expected to report to their respective district education board secretaries by Monday next week.
Mr Domingo said a 20-day grace period has been given to all recruited teachers and that those who will fail to report after the deadline will be replaced by those on the reserve list.
The deadline for reporting is September 30.
Mr Domingo said his ministry is yet to recruit 5,000 more teachers this year.

This is the surest way of answering critics, just perform and provide statistics, kwasila.
Hon. Sakeni and GBM should be advised that they are giving HH a platform he does not deserve by answering him, each time he barks, leave him alone, that is his new hobby, you are suppossed to be too busy, emulate Chishimba Kambwili, the man has changed and just focused on performing!!
