Abuse Of Women At Work Places: Solwezi Mine Boss Orders His Cleaner To Be Throwing His Urine Bottle For Him

Dear Editor,

WHEN I first received information about abuse of a named young woman at a mine in Solwezi, I was shocked.

I couldn’t believe that a multinational company with a good corporate image could tolerate such abuse or try to conceal issues of abuse at work involving defenceless women.

I personally went to ask the victim about her abuse and victimisation.

Though overwhelmed with fear, she lamented to me how the named expatriate abused her for over a year non- stop.

At the mine site, lavatories are within reach for expatriates especially, but this boss willingly, deliberately and for reasons known to himself urinates in a bottle within his office, and orders this cleaner to be throwing this urine bottle for him, and this ordeal has been going on for over a year now.

When she finally had enough of this, she reported the matter to the human resources personnel and the safety department but due to the inept nature of Zambians and the ‘ muzungu anikonde’ mentality, all they could do was casually warn this fellow.

To her surprise, he continued to abuse her but thank God she has been taken to another department and she is on probation for now.

The union representatives haven’t been of much help in representing her either.

This is why I am calling on all women organisations, the Human Rights Commission of Zambia, the Victim Support Unit in Solwezi and all well meaning Zambians to help this young woman in her quest for justice.

I could tell that her pride, spirit and sanctity have all been defiled by this experience.

Whatever information needed is with the human resources and the safety departments at the mining division.

Stop women abuse in workplaces.

Who removes a used & loaded condoms of a boss who f*cked his secretary 3 times the previous evening and left the rot on the floor? What if a lady pissed on the carpet (due to sweetness of dick)? In both scenarios, THE CLEANER CLEANS!

I can’t believe the level of ignorance of some people commenting here. This poor lady is being exploited and taken advantage of because of poverty in Zambia. some of u supporting this man..would u support him if he asked this woman to wipe his ass after he takes a damp? would u support him if he asked her to suck his dick?
Does he give this lady gloves before she touches that filthy urine bottle. Yes it’s true some pipo do nasty jobs like changing adult diapers but they are given gloves, hand sanitizer and different stuff to protect them from different kinds of diseases.
I guess it’s also ok for your spouses to sleep with your maids. The maid should go ahead and screw ur husband because jobs are so hard to come by. Ignorant fools open ur eyes.

Those who think the girl in question is being illtreated by her boss must offer alternative employment to her, instead of boring us with empty statements!

How true is this story? It is a question of ethics at work. This is a work place and not an hospice where people dump in their cloths due to sickness.Yes in a hospital it can happen and the cleaner is expected to do the cleaning but not in a work place you morons. What kind of IQs are commenting here? This white guy can not do the same where he comes from. They will definitly cite him for psychoanalysis. All in all is just as mad as you bloggers supporting this bull.0.

@Gunnerme You are the type we are in this mess always thinking with your balls.Shiit happened before independence, people got bullied and we drove the racist out but you or you still allow such backward and racist behavior to thrive in your own country by a foreigner.See what is happening to foreigners who mistreat people, just ask the dead Chinese guy or sorry is dead.As Afrcans and African Americans we have come a long way.Slavery, whites raping our sisters with impunity.Stand up and do something and not throw mud at people because of their situation.Yes there is unemployement but that does not give some one to belittle people because of his advanntage position.Yo mama fool!

@Kakolwe, walipenesha kwena! Nembafu shakalipa ine. Iwe look, picking a condom which was used is very different from being given a bottle you have urinated into to the cleaner. I will probably accept if that muzungu had pissed in the bottle and thrown it in the bin, rather than physically giving it to the cleaner to go and throw. That to me is some kind of slavery!!! The condoms which the cleaner picks (in your example) are not physically given to the cleaner. She just finds them in the morning and quietly picks and throws them! PERIOD!

@gunnerME just because there is no alternative does not mean that people got to be ill-treated. In addition, the race or nationality of the people in question have no effect to what is ethical or not. I think this is wrong.

Mr P.C Mulenga, I am saddened by your report. i strongly agree with you that such culprits should be taken to justice for such inhuman behavior. I, However wish to appeal to you to bring out all the necessary information at your disposal so that such people are exposed. information like ‘names’ should not be concealed because such people need no protection.
