Local Empowerment: Kitwe Contractor Awarded K278 Billion Road Contract To Upgrade Pedicle Road To Tarmac
THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has awarded a contract to Copperfield Mining Services Limited to upgrade the Pedicle Road from gravel to tarmac.
RDA spokesperson Loyce Saili said in an interview yesterday that the K278 billion contract was signed on Friday last week.
Ms Saili said the two year project would also see the rehabilitation of the Lubemba Bridge which is on the road.
She said the upgrading of the road would be from Mokambo border in Mufulira to Chembe Bridge in Luapula Province.
RDA, under the MMD Government awarded a contract to Fratelli Locci at the cost K300 billion to rehabilitate Pedicle Road.
However, the Patriotic Front (PF) Government recently terminated the contract due to flaws in awarding of the contract.
The contract was signed between RDA and Fratelli Locci on August 5, last year at a tender cost of K313, 887,290,717.78.
It was for the upgrading of 70 kilometres of the road through Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The road connects Luapula and Copperbelt provinces in Zambia.
The company was also contracted to construct a reinforced concrete bridge at Lubemba, on the same road.

I can smell a rat?When did Copperfield grow to a level of constructing tarmac Road.This is purely putting money in Jerabos pockets.Lets hope they will do a good job.We need to see the President go there and inspect with Kabila.

Its good that a Zambian contractor has been awarded this contract but my worry is that most Zambian owned contractors lacks equipments and you will agree with me that in most cases they do a bad job. I hope and trust that this company has what it takes to under take this project.I wish the president will pay them a visit once the project commences.

This Copperfield guy (IRVIN) is also buiding a shopping mall opposite David Mwila house in Kitwe town. Apparently this was a car park which the council sold to him without consulting the locals. JERABOS at work

@ganzo, thats my worry too! Which other companies bid for the roadworks to be beaten by one with No track record? Am sure by now they must be subcontracting worn down machinery from MMC-Mufurila. A rat stinks

Before you start making stuff up! Did you know that copperfields equipment was bought brand new and that the same Frottelli hire it to mobilize at Pedicle? Did you also know that Copperfield was the sub-contractor to Frottelli but did most of the work?And when Frotteli demobilized, Copperfields didn’t. There is a consultant who can attest to this and that is probably the main reason they gave this contract to Copperfields. Give you fellow Zambian a chance to prove his worth.

Zambians, we should learn to appreciate one another, Copperfield has proven itself that it can handle the project and all u can do is condemn because it is Zambian. Do you know the calibre of these foreigners you embrace? some of them are rejects where they come from but just because they re foreign u think they re special. We re equally capable of undertaking big projects. Zambians please lose the inferiority complex in Jesus name!
Copperfield may you go on to deliver and prove the critics wrong!

people Copperfield has always been around its a very big construction company with a lot equipment some where hired to the same italian company and the chines ,and the directors are not jerabos mr.chilufya is a very respectable businessman.VIVA BIGMAN…Zambian companies you need to follow suit.
