Chipolopolo Qualifies For AFCON Amidst Muffled Celebrations As Nigeria, Cameroun, S/Africa Crash Out

The Chipolopolo boys yesterday booked a ticket to next year’s Africa Cup amidst muffled celebrations after settling for a barren draw at home to strife torn Libya.
At the sound of the final whistle it was the Libyans who stole the show while Zambian players made their way through the tunnel with their heads drooped as a sullen atmosphere descended upon Nchanga Stadium.
On a weekend that saw regulars Nigeria and Cameroun crash out of Africa’s prestigious showpiece Dario Bonetti’s men did just enough to qualify.
South Africa was the other heavy casualty on the penultimate day of qualification.
The draw ensured that Zambia finished top of Group C on 13 points one better than Libya who also qualified as best runners up.
Dario Bonetti who opted for a Collins Mbesuma and James Chamanga striking partnership had nervy moments as Libyan stopper Samir Abod arguably the man of the match rapidly denied the Chipolopolo a goal.
Zambia pressed on early in the first half with a fourth minute miss by Collins Mbesuma that went wide after excellent service from fit again Isaac Chansa.
A minute later Libya had a chance to try their luck with a free kick after Stophilla Sunzu handled just outside the box but Jamal Mohammed spooned the ball over the bar.
In the 30th minute Mbesuma came close but saw his effort hit the woodwork.
There was near joy for Zambia when once again Abod denied Mbesuma and James Chamanga in quick succession to show the Chipolopolo that he was in no charitable mood.
James Chamanga almost put the Chipolopolo ahead with a strike that hit the outside of the post in the 53rd minute.
Sensing apprehension in the terraces Bonetti withdrew Mbesuma for Emmanuel Mayuka.

A show of tired legs in defence, midfield and upfront.
Are we going to send the same tired legs to AFCON?
We need an infusion of fresh legs to complement the experinced and still fresh ones.
We should not wait till “2014″ to reach the final – 1974,1994 then 2014?

That was a good fight. Libya was too strong in defence for our strickers & their strickers were very poor in shooting. DB, Jacob and Chansa were on injuries lists from their teams. Y automatic choice? Kwena ama players yesu, is there football in China? Those are too good for Shaolin soccer.

If that is the performance we will take to Gabon, we will be eliminated in the first round. Scores are what we needed. We are going to meet stronger teams than Libya at the AFCON next January now with that performance, our celebrating moods of political change will be desturbed. The boys should work extra hard to bring glory to the nation. Watch out boys, you will meet teams such as Guinee, Botswana, Niger and Ghana who have performed extremely well.

DB shud by know these players well. There are players who have no brains cant use their thinking and others who have brains. Eg the china boy has no brains as a result can’t think when playing the only thing is to kick around thing. What a shame! Air Force One is clever on the ball he has defty touches and passes but there goes DB he substitutes him instead of removing the dead log-Chamsnga. Futbo is not a matter of just kicking a ball but thinking of the next move.

    fans,
dont forget that even the playing tuff contributed to that performance.
the flow of passes was not even because of the uneven playing surface these pros are used to.
good luck next time boys. keep the spirit.

Bonetti must be tactical when making his changes, there was no need to substitute Mbesuma,he was by far one of the most outstanding players on the pitch, his passes were good and he was able to hold the ball and all in all, apart from Nyambe Mulenga,Mbesuma was excellent, why didn’t he sub Jacob who didn’t do well yesterday apart from the cross that Chamanga smashed against the crossbar.Players must be picked on merit, every deserving player must be given a chance if the team is to succeed.

Well done boys! It’s now time for serious preparations. We want our joy to extend to the bounds of Afcon. Wind of change has come to Zambia. This year and years to come are historical, henceforth bringing the trophy to Zambia will be the climax of our celebration. Coodination lacks in our players. Bonnetti work extra hard and be part of the history i would to see in Zambia. Be the first coach to bring the trophy to Zambia. Strikers please improve!

We lacked creativity in midfield , isacc chansa cos of lack of playing time due to injury was rusty and thats why we needed clifford mulenga in that department DB got it all wrong with his selection of the team especially the midfielders.

Yes Chamanga should heat the bench next time coz ntofo ntofo is hot so far! But qualification is better than failure. Well Done Boyz. Be ware of Cote d’vore, Ghana, Senegal and Morocco.

The pedestrian and casual manner Zambia approached the game smacks of suspicion. Both teams knew that a draw would see them through to the tourney. However, Libya needed the draw more than Zambia. So, what could have stopped Libya influencing the outcome of the match by “convincing” their counterparts to play for a draw? Forget about Sinkala he did his part and his contribution was lukewarm just like his friends. With more training the boys can do well at the tourney.

Its luck we,re thru to Afcon, but pliz lets starts our preps early. Also the so called pros to report early. Players like Drogba, Gyn, Messi and Christiano can report 2hrs b4 the game and get a hattrick.(Real pros)

i agree with Mature… tne playing turf was not our friend on the day. pliz finish Mwanawasa stadium in ndola and the boys will waaal us all. actually i found the first twenty minutes or so as a show by zambia on how they are now so very comfortable on the ball. imagine what will happen when they jell on nice turf….hhhhhhm i am salivating at the very thought of that day….

    October 10, 2011 at 12:15 am

ahhh, i left out the fact that “ntofontofo” (since we have no nickname for him in zed) he needs some good midfielder cos i feel sorry for the keeper IF gifted with the ball in the ring…. the guy us still a real threat in the 18….

The team manager needs to work hard and should learn to read the game. we all so that Isaac Chansa was out of form and was slow. I expected him to substitute Isaac and Mayuka was a better replacement, the he should have moved Chris captain on mid. we know chris can adapt any position.

Zambia need a coach. that guy does not know anything. he could not even give technical advse to the team. we played with no system at all. its just that our boys are good and put in the best. lets get the right person to deliver.

Zambia did not have a good day at the office especially in the second half. There was no sence of urgency in their play. The midfiled was very porous. We missed Kalaba in that department. The team also lacked a Messi or a Ronaldo kind of a player. One who can dribble and take on defenders. Fwayo Tembo is capable of doing that but he was brought in late.

Ba bookmaker finshi ulelanda.Do you know how much experience Sinkala can add to the team? Our team seems not have a leader in the middle of the pack and thats were we need Sinkala. He is actually one of the best midfielders that Zambia has produced.Above all Dario does not give me any hope for the future of Zambian football. He is dull.

hi soccer funs, tumfweko pali Dario Bonite, looking at the time we have reamined with, honesty can we be thinking of chucking out the coach and what miracle will the new coach perform to improve the squared,
the idear when people in the administration have difernces then th tend to start terminating contract which at the end affect all zambins should looked at, the, the relationship between FAZ and Dario shud be solved at football house as long as the coach can deliver its well with us, those who think thy have heart for the nation team let the come and coach how many c
