EXPOSED : ZAMBIAN Managers EXPLOITING Fellow Zambians At LARFAGE Cement NAMED
LAFARGE Cement workers are calling for the harmonising of salaries across the board. And the workers are working under constant threat as they are intimidated hence ‘watching out’ by remaining mute.
The workers have since expressed disappointment and displeasure on the way the Local Zambian Managers are treating them by blocking progressive work culture as far as improved conditions of service are concerned.
The named managers have been at the centre stage of turning down salary increments offered by the ‘whites’ their superiors.
The workers have since disclosed Names of the Zambian Culprit Managers playing ‘Muzungu Anikonde’ as ; MWEWA KAPEPULA-INDUSTRIAL DIRECTOR, YOTAM VIYUYI-HR LUSAKA PLANT, and BEATRICE MUTATI-HR Director For Ndola and Lusaka.
And the workers have since challenged a Patriotic Front (PF) MWENSE MP who was at the company some 2 months ago in Ndola to explain their grievance to President SATA as he knows their cry failure to which, he must resign from the Patriotic Front and government at large.
The workers further disclosed that they are in constant threat and that their Union has been compromised by LARFAGE management. And it is because of this that the union fail to execute their union leadership roles for fear of being axed from their employment.
The workers however said their case was presented to labour office but nothing has been done. They have since called for a mass ‘clean up’ of Labour offices as most officers are corrupt who fail to highlight the plight of the suffering workers after being given a ‘kick back’.
Below is part of the letter which explains the cry of the suffering LARFAGE workers ;
Dear Editor,
Honourable Shamenda, President Sata,
We are employees of lafarge cement zambia ndola plant. I want to complain about our poor working conditions. our company makes about 1.5billion kwacha per daily sales in ndola plant alone but we are paid poorly. Our yearly increments ranges from k90,000 to k120,000 per employee. Our plant machinery operators/ attendants who make cement are the lowest paid and are on contracts; most of them have worked more than 10 years on contract with very low gratuity at 15% at end of contract. Employees in the Ndola Plant are the lowest paid while those in the Lusaka plant are enjoying good salaries but same company lafarge cement, an electrician in Ndola gets 2.8millionk while in lusaka plant they get 5.2millionk. same company, same jobs but different salaries. kindly help us. Machinery Operator/Attendants gets k1.8millon kwacha per month for a company that makes billions of kwachas, it pays our four foreign managers between 150million kwacha to 450million kwacha per month as salaries with 7million kwacha weekly allowances besides paying for their accomnodation, food, electricity, dstv, vehicle allowances etc. yet they refuse to give us better salaries saying the company has no money, then how do they manage to pay these people with positions that zambians can manage? Our christmas bonuses were scrapped off 7years ago, we want it back. Production bonuses are paid in percentages disadvantaging those with lower salaries, mostly calculated at 10% so that those with bigger salaries will get more money than those who suffer for it. Retirees are never paid their full benefits, but are paid half of their total entitlement. If one is to get 200million kwacha pension, they will pay him 100million and other half remains with the company then continue paying him 400,000pin every month. Our fellow zambian managers who have betrayed us are ; mwewa kapepula-industrial director, yotam viyuyi-hr lusaka plant,and beatrice mutati-hr director for Ndola and Lusaka. Pf mwense mp was 2months ago our hr in ndola if he doesn’t explain this to our president then he must resign from pf government. Please help us. We are seriously intimidated that we can’t strike or protest, the union is in fear 0f job losses. They are intimidated and controlled by management, they get what management decides for them. Each time they ask for an increment they say the company has no money. our friends in other bigger companies like ours e.g indeni, ndola lime, tazama etc, get good salaries. Please help us and save us from these poor and corrupt/traitor zambian managers who have let us down. Investors use their weaknesses to exploit us.

thats a sad story for a company which produces and Zambia’s most sought after commodity, this is the trend in Zambian companies; for example @ LUSAKA WATER AND SEWERAGE COMPANY,has over three conditions of service with head office which has relatives for most bosses, getting double the salaries that the rest of the departments get, including those that pump water from the main intake in Kafue. thats why the company has a poor working culture, because employees work as they earn and how can stump out corruption with such things happening,how can you prevent the workers from doing piece works at the expense of the company. shame to the Zambian bosses you are educated to enslave fellow black people. Let us stump out the injustice Zambians, this is in a lot of organizations.

The Labour ministry really need a shake up mostly with district lab officers who are corrupt. ANTELOPE MILLING has no union. Please Labour Minister Sir also help to locate a Mr Simon the former DIRECTOR OWNER OF AVLOV Limited who is believed to be in TANZANIA. The situation in Lafarge is not only there, most companies are equally affected, a fellow zambian oppressing another, what a shame do to others as u expect them do to u or be gud to others on your way up for u may need them on your way down. But inshimbi nashisa H.E. Sata and his government will sort out these devils for sure, worse enough opposition MMD was part of this scauge coz we complained enough for a long time over this vice but nothing positive came out even labour officers were doing nothing, hope redemption has come.

an appael is also made to MSC to clean up the MMD carders in Foreign service most of them without relevant degrees but have changed from MMD their appointees to PF cardres.Its a welcome move to remove the ambassoidors but also these MMD cardres there is no way cardres can occupy 60% of positions in Missions because of RBs Corruption

I would like the new Labour Minister if at all there are list of express cases that can be dealt with before the expire of the 90 days so that people can have a relief.That is a serious case.It si not only Larfage there are various companies.Those labours Officers need to be transferred they have a bad system of not serving our people when they bring the complaint.How do you feel as a Labour Officer to continue enriching yourself at the expense of your fellow Zambians?Madandaulo yabantu yafuntisi kusogolo.
Managers at larfage and other Companies who are in the habit of blocking other peoples progress just resign on moral grounds because you have already done economic atrocities to your fellow Zambians.

Guys as much as we condemn foreign employers lets analyse our locals as well coz in fact there are local employers who are far much worse than the chinese and boers. i know of some who even tell employees to report them anywhere and for that fact the labour office is dead and rotten.

Companies like Golden Lay which is also producing and selling so much more than expected pays workers peanuts no overtime,bad structures for accommodation and literally waste conditions. Please visit them. Zambian bosses are pathetic also, u know these old bosses.

SATA please impliment Equal pay for equal work & cancel work permits for any foreigner who is less or equally qualified than a zambian on the streets.
The difference in pay between an expatriate & a zambian must only be in some allowance for being away from his country period.

How much profit do teachers make in their organisations? be realist its the nature off work and how mush money the organisations makes that matters, most teachers in urban areas work less than 5 hrs a day, because they are so many as compared to rural areas. The company makes billion in profits a month and you think its justfied to pay our people nuts, think twice my brother, dont be bitter because of others work, they desrve it.

This is the more reason why ba Union must serve for a stipulated limited period, not the prevailing situations where same people only swap positions for over 5 years… no progress!! And like the late Lucky Dube sung “Not every black man is my brother… just like not every white man is my enemy” he was killed by a black man. it’s not always that these so-called investors want to deprive us, our native senior managers sometimes are to blame because they allow it yet they themselves will have nothing to complain about.

There are the arctects of poor conditions of service such as proposals for workers to remain on contract for ages and also slavery for workers to work for free after normal working hours as the two are the ones who came up with the idea of bannishing overtime to please their white masters.

These issues of low salaries are well dealt with yourselves. If you have a weak Union, start by removing your Union leaders and have noble representation. Govt cannot afford to go round solving every industrial dispute, that’s why they are Union representatives. Protest against your Union and not your Management. Management endorses what the Union has accepted, so deal with your Union leaders and then Govt can later intervene where necessary. This is what they say that some Zambians are passive. Once you have accepted a job you have accepted the salary offer. Go to school and develop your career prospects don’t just sit and complain. Mind you, do not compare sales with what you can get, compare company profits with what can be offered. Kabiyeni ku sikulu bawishi….
