MSANZALA Independent Member of Parliament Col Joseph Lungu has resigned as area parliamentarian.
Col Lungu has since joined the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).
This means another by-election is coming and government is expected to lose Billions of Kwacha in tax payers money in organising the election.
However, the courts of law have already recieved about 100 petitions which are likely to be nullified and call for the by-elections.
This is not the first time an MP is resigning after 9/20 elections and force a by-election. Then elected MMD Chongwe Member of Parliament Japhen Mwakalombe resigned in a similar capacity to take up a job in foreign service in PF government and thereby creating room for his cousin Sylvia Masebo to be MP after she lost to him on 9/20. Masebo recently scooped the by-election and is now MP for Chongwe.
He resigned adding that meaningfull development in Msanzala can only be achieved if the area MP comes from the ruling party.

This is Moral Corruption… it will cost us money. As an Independent, the Conel should have just worked with the PF… no quams, no politics, no explainations to any one, and mean while saving the much needed funds. I am told a bye elextion costs in the range of K3bn. This could build a mini hospital in Msanzala.
how can you develop like this? the President is setting the tone for cost saving in Livingstone, a paliamentarian is prompting a costly venture in Eastern Province. Net effect will be cost neutral!!

This *****! Why did he have to resign? He could have simply held a closed door meeting and agreed terms with the ruling party. Not this bullshit! Wasting money over trivial procedures.

Okay can someone explain what exactly he resigned from. It is not from a party so is it from being an MP? May i ask why zambians resign from parties did they apply to join? don’t you just buy a party card and keep quiet?

He should have just agreed to support PF in parliament and give them his vote rather than resign. K3bn for an election can build a small hospital in that area and help the people. Why did he contest as an independent if he knew development only is only possible with the ruling party? Such people should consult widely before wasting people’s time and govts money.
