GOVERNMENT on Monday 12/19 agreed to help FAZ meet Herve Renard’s salary.
This is following a tripartite meeting held at the Ministry of Sport in Lusaka.
The meeting was attended by FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya and his general secretary George Kasenegle.
Also in attendance was National Sports Council of Zambia general secretary Rogers Chipili and sports council spokesperson Smart Mwitwa including other high ranking NSCZ committee members.
Sports minister Fackson Shamenda said they will study FAZ’s proposed US$ 25,000 monthly pay for the Frenchman.
“Whatever the amount in the contract Government will find a way of helping to pay,” Shamenda said at the end of the two hour meeting.
However, Shamenda warned FAZ that Football House must improve on its human resource management.
“As Government we will help to pay for the coach but in future there is need for consultations before hiring and firing,” the minister said.
Renard begun his second stint as Zambia coach in October when he was handed on a 12 month deal.
He replaces Italian Dario Bonetti who was fired on October 10 just two days after guiding Zambia to the 2012 Africa Cup tournament.

This is disturbing, kalusha and his friends boasted that they alone at faz know how they pay the coach and every financial expences.they said the minister was not in order to criticise the faz running and today they have gone back to government.let them source for this money and not use our tax payers for their idiotic, pathetic, ridiculos moves.

Why are they giving him $25,000. Herve made it clear that his salary is just K10,000,000. Who is going to get the balance. Is it Kalu?

We knew this was coming. HR is getting US$5000 Kalu and Kasengele are geting US$15000 and US$5000 respectively cos this is the major reason DB was fired becoz Kalu was not given a share in the salary of DB. Tax payers money is what govt is using. is the reason of keeping tax at such high percentages? someone is an IDT, a TEE,a CHIII

Its time Zambia starts being realistic, $25,000/month is a lot of money to pay a coach(let no fool should try to compare with other econ stable nations!). Time to build our own local coaches (who can live well on say K15m)! After all, the performance would stil be the same or beta since we can’t be worse than this!

If the rate of exchange kwacha per dollar is K5,000/$1, then Renard is worth K125, 000,000 monthly. Is this fair mwebantu. Why all this money just on an individual? Are we really caring for the poor? FAZ if you employed a local coach do you think you could even be paying him or her K80, 000, 000? Let us be serious in the manner we use tax payers money. This money plus whatever his assistants get and technical bench including Kalu and his FAZ we’re talking of billions which we can use to improve the lives of those who are less fortunate than we! I am really annoyed with this development. The money is too much. Our people in most companies and industries are struggling to get even ends meet getting only peanuts then we’re even busy boasting about hom much this coach of yours is getting! Average salary for most zambians is K500, 000 monthly. How many workers can Renard pay with all that money? We’re talking of 250 workers. Is there anything that Renard will achieve that the likes of Phiri, Lwandamina, Msiska, Nyirenda, etc, cannot achieve! Wait and see next month. I am not wishing our National team bad luck but facts are on the ground. Which players will be able to mark or pass through the likes Drogba, Kalou, Yaya, Kolo, Gervinho? Talk of Ghana! It will be terrible! Luck we are not meeting these teams in the group stages al else it could have been all humiliation. Now why spend all this cash on something that only brings us sadness? When the team comes back from AFCON let’s please look for long term measures not this absurdity of hiring and firing. We let a local coach be in charge even for the next ten to fifteen years and you will see wonders!

THE State has seized properties worth billions of Kwacha, including a hotel in neighbouring Malawi and some apartments in Tanzania allegedly belonging to former first lady Thandiwe Banda.
This comes in the wake of the on-going probe into suspected plunder of national resources by some former leaders in the MMD administration.
Sources told the Times of Zambia in Lusaka yesterday that the luxurious apartments linked to Mpundu Trust Limited in Lusaka and other properties within the country were also lined up for seizure from the embattled first family which has been under investigations over allegations of acquisition of property using public funds.
if it was proved that the properties were properly acquired after the investigations, they would be handed back
Impeccable sources said investigative wings had seized a hotel in Malawi and some flats in Tanzania allegedly linked to Mrs Banda.
“The Mpundu Trust flats in Lusaka have also been seized. This is part of the on-going investigations into suspicions that the former first family could have acquired property using public funds.
“The probe on allegations of using public funds to acquire personal properties by the former first family has intensified. And it’s not only them that are being investigated. Anyone who is suspected to be involved in corruption will be investigated,” the sources said.
They said if it was proved that the properties were properly acquired after the investigations, they would be handed back to the owners.
“But if the opposite is discovered, then the law will take its course against the culprits.”
The source said the Government investigative wings were working in liaison with authorities in the host governments for properties suspected to have been plundered and were outside Zambia’s jurisdiction.
Inspector General of Police, Martin Malama remained mute on the matter.
Former president, Rupiah Banda’s administrative secretary, Mikatazo Wakumelo expressed ignorance over the development.
President Michael Sata recently instructed law enforcement agencies to investigate how a private bank account belonging to Mpundu Trust Limited held a colossal sum of US$ 1 million.
The president gave the directive in the wake of revelations that Mpundu Trust had unexplained funds in one of the commercial banks in the country.
On the basis of the colossal amounts involved, the president felt that it would only be fair and prudent for the Drug Enforcement Commission, in liaison with other law enforcement agencies, to investigate the matter.
Recent media reports revealed that Mpundu Trust was linked to the former president, Mr Banda.
Mr Sata said the decision to probe Mpundu Trust Limited was without malice or ill-motive but to simply set the record straight.
He said the action was in line with the promise the Patriotic Front made to the people that accountability, transparency and fairness before the law would be the bedrock of his administration.

If zambia national soccer team will not perform in the afcon, then it will be better for the government to ban the national team and concentrate on league matches atleast for 2years.Because that money the government is spending to pay coaches and other loggistics should go for the poor people,we have alot of things to do with that money, etc health, schools, roads. The guys are playful, too much beer, womanise, which can not support with the soccer, they can’t perform.
