AS calls for the removal of former President Rupiah Banda’s immunity heightens, a clergyman says there is need to counsel those backing such calls.
Speaking in an interview with Qfm, Zambia Rainbow Coalition board member Reverend Rueben Sambo explains that calls to remove Mr. Banda’s immunity are unfounded as they are not backed by facts.
Reverend Sambo says lifting the former President’s immunity will present a bad precedent on which future President will base their corruption fights.
He says former President Banda’s immunity must only be removed if serious facts to the allegations being leveled against him are presented and agreed upon by the majority Zambians.
Reverend Sambo adds that failure by the PF government to substantiate the alleged corrupt practices involving Mr. Banda on which his immunity should be removed will mean that the move is vindictive.

Why not have a close in the constitution that says something like
“an incumbent shall lose his presidential/executive immunity 60 mins after the swearing-in of the new incumbent…”
This would save us time and perhaps make all future presidents think twice before stealing

Iwe ka pastor, removing immunity does not mean prosecuting. It just paves way for investigation. And if found guilty, the law will take it’s course. There’s a difference between fundamental theology and political science.
I pity you Protestant pastors who do not study philosophy like catholic priests to understand all such spheres of life.

If the facts are there that RB stole or there are some doubts then the immunity should be removed by the process of voting in parliament. Remember what Levy did to Chiluba, that is what Sata must do to RB. Minus facts or some people bringing proof that RB stole then forget about it. You dont have to work up and start calling the lifting of the immunity because you hate RB no!To some extent, i agree with the pastor and i urge the broogers to analyse what the pastor said. At the sometime i have a feeling that Rb stole and if he did then he must be imprisoned.

Its so shameful that we have pf demonic cadres that keep disrespecting men of God and describing them like dung or unuseful. Pastors can make mistakes like any other person but God does not abandone them. Abraham, David, Samuel, Elijah, peter, Paul and many others in the bible made mistakes but god never punished them. You who are insulting pastors have no knowledge of god’s love and you simply bringing curses on yourselves. I suppose you are devil worshippers, not so? Why are you so vulgar in your language, mwe bana ba kwa satana? indeed so vindictive. Who told you that Sata needed every pastor to support him during campaigns and was it neccessary anyway? he himself has said we should forget the past as he insulted others also and they insulted him? When a pastor tells his flock that they shouln’t vote for this one for obveous reasons that doesn’t mean he hates the person. Is it not true that some of the things pastors feared against sata are now happening? Are you not seeing increased deaths in the country since MCS became president? Don’t you see that zambia is at a stand still economically? stop witch hunting and blind patronage. The president seem to be sober minded on past issues but these kaponyas keep seeking to kill everyone who opposed sata. In a democracy that is how it goes, this one supports this one another that one but there must not be parmanent enemies. Pastor sambo is a man of God and he is right in all he has counselled us. there is no good reason to lift RB”s immunity without tacts of the wrongs he has done.

Is it the PF calling for the removal of RB’s immunity from prosecution? Its some mmd members like Mutale Nalumanga and some members of the civil society. I have never held the president calling for the removal of the immunity for RB to face the law. Only those who not to see, would say RB never stole. Removal of immunity does not mean conviction. @herbert you must have chewed from RB big time going by how you support. I support but but the day he starts stealing and enriching himself en his family that’s day I will stop supporting him.

@positive don’t lie in public. When David slept with Bathsheba and had her husband killed war, the child they had died and David grieved. Peter’s denial of Jesus was exposed even before he did so. What wrongs did Abraham, Samuel, Elijah and Paul each do for which God forgave them? If the kaponyas keep seeking to kill “everyone who opposed sata,” why haven’t we heard of complaints from HH, Milupi, EC jr, Nawakwi and many more? Any statistic to show reduction in deaths and economic standstill?

The removal of RB’s immunity is long overdue. What are we waiting for? RB is not special than Chiluba,in any case RB is foreign who ruled this country illegally. This pastor’s call not to removal RB’s immunity is misplaced and it appears to me that he doesn’t know what he is doing. Is he really a true man of God? Does really understand the Word of God? The Bible in Galatians chapter 6 says that”A man shall reap what he sows”. The bible also says that “No sin should go unpunished”.Forgiveness does not entail one who has committed crimes/sins going unpunished,it means you will be forgiven but you must pay for your crimes.Zaccheaus(Tax collector) in the bible after having encountered Jesus, not only repented but had to make restitution(paid back what he stole from the people). This is what we are talking about even concerning RB’s immmunity,he should make restitution for what he has stolen from the Zambian people. No one has convicted him yet,but the removal his immunity will give him an opportunity to defend himself before the courts of the law instead of him hiding behind his so called immunity. It is higher time in this country we introduced marshall law to deal with cases of plunder and corruption in this country.

If you ask me, i will tell you to leave the President alone. Respect for leaders is the same as the respect we have for of parents, this includes parents we may not agree with. Zambia is the only country in the region with this propensity to remove immunity for former leaders. RB must be allowed to have a restful and productive retired. Even former aparthied leaders were not treated the way we Zambians have chosen to treat our former Presidents. We may be a beacon of peaceful elections and hand over of power but we are every poor at handling the transition we like to play to the gallery. Our media occasions are sadistic by design and action the look like the are fighting to expose issues to the Zambian public when in fact the seek vengeance for there perceived enemies.

RB’s rule was characterised with undemocratic tendencies such as arrogance, dictatorship, unwarranted threats to opposing views and balatant abuse of public institutions. RB even threatened Chieftainess Nkomeshya because he thought that he was the Alpha and Omega of Zambia. He never considered himself and his cronies as public servants. The time of reckoning has come for him to wake up to reality. He failed to lesson a lesson from Chiluba but decided to make Chiluba as his darling and mentor. RB’s immunity should be lifted so that it serves another lesson to those who aspire for leadership roles in our young and growing democracy. It is high time Africa stopped defining democracy as though it is Kingship or a simpler version of dictatorship.

Sambo is a thief who partook in the looting of our hard earned resourses, hence his feeble defence of RB. Chiluba had his immunity removed. What is special about Banda?
