SOURCES within ZAMTEL headquarters in Lusaka have disclosed to Tumfweko that Lap GreenN Chief Executive Officer was this morning Tuesday 1/24 harassed by heavy armed Zambia Police officers.
The CEO was harassed as he was being chased out of his office by armed Police Officers.
The Police escorted Zamtel CEO and CFO off the premises.
Meanwhile, government having accepted without reservation the report on the findings of the Committee Investigating the sale of Zamtel, Zambian President, Michael Sata has deemed it desirable and expedient to compulsorily acquire the 75 per cent shareholding of Lap Green Network in Zamtel.
The appropriate notice under the law has been given.
Consequently, the President has ordered the dissolution of the Board of Directors of Zamtel. The Head of State has appointed Dr Mupanga Mwanakatwe, Chairman and acting Chief Executive Officer as a first step to regularize the affairs of the company.
A new board will soon be put in place to give the policy guidance and direction to management and staff. President Sata has further directed management to address the plight of Zamtel workers with due immediacy.
“There should be no loss in jobs except through retirement and attrition while maintaining the highest levels of discipline and respect of law,” President Sata said.
“Zamtel workers have served with distinction in an area of sophisticated information technology. This has been so from the inception of the company.”
President Sata once again reiterated his relentless commitment to his duty as custodian of the interests of the Zambian people and assured the Zamtel workers their traumas and anxieties would be ended.
Government will restructure ownership of Zamtel to ensure Zambians owned the bulk of the shares in a revitalized Zamtel.
This is according to a statement issued by GEORGE CHELLAH-SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT PRESS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

The current Zamtel strategy is a brillient business model, I hope the new CEO will see that and work with it. The old ZAMTEL was a burden and it was well to restricture it, although the process was so RB-nised.
Sad that the guy was dragged out he was just an employee.

Brave PF government.
Old Zamtel staffs were marginalized [or discriminated ]as compared to new zamtel staff but the technical operational of the company still depends heavily on the expertise and experience of the lowly paid and unfavoured staff more especially the Technician and Drivers.
Most of the dependable technical staff in all three Telecommunication firms; MTN, AirTel and Zamtel have passed through ZAMTEL College and have worked for Zamtel before to those who have left.
No overtime payment for over 11 months and during that time overtime was paid to commercial and call centre agents as these have connection with Amon Jere, the CCO and Jawau a Ugandan national respectively.
In short most allowances were paid in discrimination and no transport allowance to those who work on Saturdays,Sundays or public holidays.
Many Zambians from old Zamtel left or were fired on trivial matters like not contributing in the meeting.
If Dora Siliya-led government had won the election we would have seen over 70 Ugandans, Rwandese even Somalians in Zamtel today.
I have a lot to mention just a few.

If the CEO had no respect for zambians when he was at the helm, then he fully deserves the treatment he got. Problem with us zambians we allow ppl to abuse our own ppl just because they are foreigners. If a zambian manager did what he did in a west african country, he would be on the next plane back home

Hans Paulse or whatever his name is did not deserve that, I agee with one of the commentators “He was just an employee” his treatment is barbaric.
To Airtel strategist, my analysis of the mobile market is that MTN is more of threat to AIRTEL than ZAMTEL because they have the money and are ahead of you. MTN market share 5 years ago was abt 15% but it has moved to abt 36% with most of the younger generation joining MTN.

You guys that are feeling pity for that man called Hans Paulsen, you have no idea how evil that man was. He used to mistreat people, threaten pipo, treat people like pieces of trash and insult them. He was always like a wounded lion. People like Eve Banda also thought they were part of Lap Green, they treated Zambians like nothing and they thought they knew it all.
He used to treat grown men and women like babies undress them and reduce them to zero. Those EXCO meetings of tuesdays people used to come out like they have been wipped.
Hans Paulsen deserves it .

I cant believe this, this is so primitive and outdated. Instead of sending hungry armed police officers, Govt could have sent personnel to officially inform Zamtel MD about its decision to repossess Zamtel and not this animal farm way. How is the outside world looking at Zambia now and what am I going to benefit as an ordinary citizen now that Zamtel belongs to Zambians, am I going to make free calls, free internet, etc????

There’ll be hell to pay for this decision. Lap Green will not take this lying down. Zambians are not very analytical people, they applaud anything without understanding the consequences. I pity Zambians…blind support!!

Have read all the threads here. Now I can summarise. Some sound like they worked for Zamtel and got really pissed off by the lapgreen management style.Others sound like Zamtel issue does not only affect Zamtel even other privatised companies. While others feel the police went too far in handling the CEO & CFO.others feel it was justified because he was a brute during his time at Zamtel.Others want Dora to go in.I can see that people are more informed than a decade ago. Thanks to ICT.Any way we should not return evil for evil.As for Dora and others involved in graft, it is now clear that they are not that clever at all.

I am sure the Libyan people will understand and bare with us for what has happened to Paulsen. Three quarters of the Zambian people were opposed to the sell of Zamtel by mmd gvt. The MMD gvt which we trusted and put in power after we lost our dear president Levy (MHSRIP) corruptly sold Zamtel to Lap GreenN against people’s wishes. People lost their jobs just for opposing to the idea of selling Zamtel. The PF party before they came into power also warned MMD gvt under president Rupia Banda not to sell Zamtel. Now the new gvt of pf party under the leadership of HEMC Sata. Voted in power to carry the Zambian Flag and protect property of GRZ are just putting things in order on behalf of the Zambian people, that is one of the reasons why MMD party lost the 20th September 2011 elections cos of corruption in their gvt and Zamtel SAGA. Therefore the president of the Republic of Zambia and PF party need to be respected for carrying out this difficult job on our behalf, we thank you.

Guys i strongly feel that this is an act of God. just look at the flow of events; Gaddafi dies – Michael SC wins (rules) – Zamtel repossessed. This is not a coincidence but providence. imagine gGaddafi being alive, would our Michael -SC dared repossesing Zamtel?

This is really a good move the government has taken in ensuring that ZAMTEL is repossesed. My only advice to the government is that they should continue running business affairs of ZAMTEL in the same course those LIBYANS were driving it. Otherwise congratulations to the President for taking such a decisive measure.

REPOSESION GUD, BUT IT MUST UNDERSTUD THAT NO PARASTATAL INSTITUTION RUN BY GOVT HAS BEEN WELL RUN.SATA MUNE ZAMTEL WILL NEVA PERFORM BETA THAN IT HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS BECAUSE ZAMBIANS AT THE HELM WILL BE POLITICALLY INFLUECED & CORRUPT AT THE EXPENSE OF DOING BUSINESS. INE PALWANDI NDETILA ZAMTEL STARTED TO INSPIRE TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN ITS CUSTOMERS. FOR NOW FORGET ABOUT ZAMTEL BEING VIABLE AGAIN, BECAUSE YOU POLITICIANS WILL BURRY YOUR HEADS IN IT AND INFLUENCE POLICY DECISIONS. MUTAMPE NOKULIPILA AMA PHONE BILLS FOR IT IS NOW IN GOVT HANDS. BANE UKWEBELE IMFWA YAKWANOKO MUTANSHI. UKWALI INSOKE NAKO TAKWAFWILE BANTU. ICAKUTI MUPOSHE ICHILONDA MWAPUTULA UKUULU. ALA BANE UMUTEEKA TIMA WABUSHISHE KONGE AMABULA. THE GOVT SHOULD HAVE DIALOGUED WITH LAP GREEN TO HEAR THEIR SIDE OF STORY AND IM SURE THEY WOULD HAVE WELCOMED THAT TO SEE WHERE THINGS WENT WRONG AND WHO WAS WRONG.NO MATTER HOW BAD THINGS ARE PERCEIVED TO BE DIALOGUE IS EXTREMELY CARDINAL. YES THERE MAY HAVE BEEN IRREGULATIES BUT THAT IS OUTWEIGHED BY HOW MUCH ZAMTEL BECOME VIABLE. 4GET ABOUT THE COMPANY PAYING TAXES BUT THINK ABOUT IT BEING HEAVILY INDEBTED AS BEFORE AS THE WHOLE MONEY MADE WILL BE CONSUMED THROUGH CORRUPTION AS ZAMBIAN WE ARE KNOWN FOR THAT.THOUGH TOUGH TIME AHEAD OF ZAMTEL UNDER NEW CEO AND WISH U THE BEST.
