LAP Green Network says it is deeply worried by the move by the Zambian Government to formally reverse the sale of Zamtel, which it 75% owned.
LAP Green in an electronic statement released to QFM says of its primary concern now is for the talented workforce at Zamtel, and for the one million subscribers who rely on Zamtel services to conduct their businesses and speak to their families and friends.
The statement says over the last few weeks, they have made numerous attempts to find an amicable solution that satisfies all the parties involved and secures the best possible outcome for Zamtel employees and subscribers.
They expresses regret that the Zambian Government has not given them an opportunity to meet and discuss the matter.
They point out that under LAP Green’s ownership, Zamtel has moved from a state of near insolvency to become a national success story.
They add that as well as growing Zamtel’s subscriber base by over 600% in just over 18 months, they have created 1,700 jobs in Zambia.
LAP Green has further restated that it categorically rejects any allegations of wrong-doing during the acquisition of its 75% stake in Zamtel.
They maintain that the acquisition was made through an open, transparent and competitive bidding process, overseen by well-respected international professional organisations and in strict adherence to Zambia’s established legal framework.
LAP Green however says it hopes the situation can still be amicably resolved, and welcome an opportunity to work with the Zambian Government to achieve this.
President Michael Sata yesterday announced Government’s formal takeover of LAP Green’s 75% stake in Zamtel and consequently dissolved the board of directors.

The move by the government is economically wrong but politically right in that zamtel is a sensitive institution which is supposed to be controlled by th government for security reasons…al in al its a gud move!

Well, its a pitty that LAP GreenN has now realised that there was need to discuss this. They should have said this dialogue suggestion earlier on than threaten that they will fight to the bitter end. This is a Sovereign state and not their home country where they can issue threats. Anyway, farewwell to them, no heart feelings for this once stubborn and disillusioned investor!

Bravo – these dodgy foreign investors will never, ever take zambia and its ppl for granted. Let this be a lesson to all foreign investors who think they can just come and bribe (cheaply) African politicians. This is the dawn of a new era as far as FDI into the continent is concerned

NO MORE communication since we are not friends ba nsanya imwe. You are about 6000000 which is double our population but you got 70% of our property through dubious means! Infact we have to find out what you have used so far.

1. Zamtel sale was smelly. Cn be seen in Dora’s excitement after the sale.
2. Zamtel is a custodian of all security wire concerns thru mwembeshi satelites. Leavin it in foreign hands is suicidal to the nation.
3. Zamtel management became too pompous thnkn they were above zambians.
4. They’v lost zamtel to the zambian and they will loose the afcon game to zambians today.

A step in the right direction. MCS is the only surving siblin in his family and when he told the crowd that God has presserved him for a purpose, it makes sense. Zambia has been liberated and suprisingly, Mr HH and his UPND refused to comment or wellcome the reversal when the media sought him and his party for a comment. But it comes as no suprise to many Zambians coz he has decided to turn himself into a Lifwekelo or is it Chifire for the sake of maintaining UPND/MMD PACT.
