The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has scooped the Msanzala parliamentary by-elections in eastern province which was held yesterday thursday 2/16.
Kitwetimes.com reports that PF candidate in the Msanzala parliamentary by-election Colonel Joseph Lungu has retained the seat after resigning as an independent MP before contesting under the PF ticket.
The elections were being contested by opposition Movement for Multi-Party Democracy-MMD- candidate Peter Daka, Independent candidate Usuman Maumba, UNIP candidate Shadrick Banda.
So far 200 votes have been rejected.
Figures will be updated shortly..

An independent MP resigns, joins the ruling party and is adopted to stand on the ruling party’s ticket. Then the Govt spends a lot of money on his re-election and as luck would have it, he wins. Who is the loser here? Poor voters I guess!!!! democracy indeed.

In as much as we wud congrat PF in a early lead, i think it frustrating wat PF is now doing. wen they were in opposition they strongly oposed adopting candidates who resignd from ruling party to join ruling party. Are we saying people are still using MMD tactics? I guess what blame the Colonel, the Msanzala nether the govt. Why? Because the law provides for it. What you and I should do is to look for this clause in this new constitution in making and make contribution when time comes for our submission that is if it has been left out. For now lelonilelo, Democracy Indeed, chanda mwamba and many aggrieved you have to live with it. sorry!

I think we should do something in the new constitution about resignation and by-elections.I mean why as tax payers should we allow our money to be spent twice on the same project which is cannot even guarantee that the people of musanzala will surely benefit from the said elections. What if there was a close in the constituion that can allow an mp to change parties without losing the MP status, can’nt this help us save millions of kwacha which can be used for other project such as provision of clean water for the same musanzala constituency?Lets put our pronouncements into action,no one is coming to develop our country, its us the zambians by managing our migre resources well.NOT EXTRAVANCE IN BY ELECTIONS.

Do not complain. You threatened SATA with impeachment. You think he will sit down. Wait until he gets Chipata central. I fear for the opposition. You waste time politicking instead of discussing important matters. You waste time talking about ITT, Chirundu realignment when Sata is busy winning seats. Congrats.

Indeed by-elections are costly. I’m sure the Col. belonged to party b4 the elections last September 20 and was not adopted by that party. He was a popular guy so he went independent and after that joined PF and has been re-elected. My point, in the new Constitution an independent MP should be allowed to join a party of his choice without necessarily having an election, but if a card carrying MP resigns to join another party they should not be allowed to contest the seat throughout the life of the current Parliament and the candidate who came second should assume the seat. By-elections should only be held in the event of death.

Another one. PF bribes mwakalombe in chongwe and sends him into diplomatic mission in mozambique, forces a by election and now ist musazalala.as joseph wsa in the air lifted by his cadres, president was appointing him deputy minister……. figthing corruption with daylight corruption. and coz the the post are eating, in the government, working with and are within governement, they can’nt bring out these iisues.
