Four officers from the fisheries department and Zambia Wildlife Authority -ZAWA are admitted to Kabwe General Hospital.
The officers were beaten up by a group of fishermen in Lukanga Swamps in Kapiri Mposhi as they tried to enforce the annual fish ban on Monday.
The officers’ efforts to arrest the fishermen however incensed the villagers who later ganged up and beat them up before grabbing two guns from them.
Five villagers have since been arrested in connection with the fracas and are remanded in police custody.

the villagers were damn wrong. what these people forget is that the fish ban is for their own good. if the same fish was to extinct in their water sources who will suffer? definitely its them and not the ZAWA or fisheries officers. lets think people.

IF IT IS WRONG FOR ZAWA TO ENFORCE FISH BAN FOR PURPOSE OF LETTING THE SPECIES TO BREED AND ALSO ENCOURAGE POACHING, WE MAY AS WELL ALLOW DISSOLUTION OF THE ENTIRE ZAWA.IN OTHER COUNTRIES WILD LIFE IS HIGHLY PROTECTED TO AVOID POSSIBLE EXTINCTION OF SPECIES. BECAUSE OF UNCONTROLLABLE POACHING,”INAMA SHIMBI NGE MPOMBO SHALIPWA MUNCENDE ISHINGI MUNO CALO CESU” KULYA NO KULINGA!

I think along time ago, people killled wildlife or fished for home consumption purposes now wonder wildlife was nicely regulated. but today its about commercial, imagine killing an elephant for two ivories, but if it was for consumption, it could feed for a week. Same with fish, if it were for consumption by fishermen, i thnk it would be okay, but the problem is it is for selling and they will try to fish as much as they can, using ububa (poison) which kills together with eggs. they use mosquitoe nets which also captures along very tiny small fish that are not grown yet. so yes, i think i am fine with fish ban. ala mwebantu, tekulesha ukuloba, fwebantu twalishupa, isabi kuti lyapwafye bwino so, twayamba nokucita import from china. napela mayo.

It is very vital to understand that laws and regulations are put in place for the benefit and betterment of the locals so that they (locals) too can pass on the benefits to the next generation. Now if these villagers are going to brutalise people that are their to enhance their wellbeing then they need to be met by the wrath of the law. When one performs an ilegality it is an ilegality and there can be no justification to for instance say one performed the alleged ilegality to redeem themselves from the shackles of poverty.

What kind of fishermen were these to have disarmed ZAWA officers in that manner. I think the Ministry responsible for the Fisheries should intervene in the matter, this is not a laughing matter and the law should visit those thugs. I am appalled that such a thing has happened.

Sometimes jungle law is good for such pipo like the dull fishermen and those supporting them just kill them there and then without wasting tax payers money keeping them in prisons and driving them to courts.
