The Movement for Multi Party Democracy-MMD has been de-registered by the Registrar of Societies for non compliance with the Societies Act.
Chief Registrar of Societies, Clement Andeleki says this means the former ruling party ceases to operate as a political party in Zambia and it has lost all the fifty three seats in parliament.
Mr. Andeleki says the action arises from the non payment of statutorily fees amounting over three hundred and ninety million Kwacha.
He made the announcement at a press briefing at the Ministry of Home Affairs Headquarters this morning.
Mr. Andeleki says the decision has been taken after several reminders from the time the MMD was in government.
And Mr Andeleki says he will be writing to the Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini to inform him about the de-registration of the MMD.
He has warned erring registered organisations, Churches, NGOs and political parties to be legally compliant with the Societies Act if they are to continue operating in Zambia.

MMD HAD RELAXED AND LET THEM PAY FOR THEIR SINS.
THEY WOULD HAVE DETARED DEVELOPMENT AS THEY OPPOSSED GOOD POLICIES TO COVER UP THEIR CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES. I MEAN BETTER TO SPEND IN A BY-ELECTION THAN LEAVE THE COUNTRY UNDEVELOPED IN THE NAME OF BEING AN OPPOSITION. IS UPND PAYING TO THE REGISTRAL OF SOCIETY CO IT IS ALSO ONE OF THE CORRUPT OPPOSITION

Tribute to MMD:
Yes I remember when a short charismatic man in a smart white tuxedo shouted ‘the hour has come for change’
Yes I remember a sea of people shouting back with the greatest excitement and roar like that of the Mosi o tunya falls.
Yes I remember adverts on my father’s black and white TV of bread being cut in pieces and being buttered. How I salivated on that sight.
Then came blue buses, new mines, shopping malls and so on and so on.
Yes I remember because I was in Lyanshya when it happened.
Everyone was furious with the short man. They all said he made the mine close.
Yes I remember when he addressed them. They were all smiling.Oh that short fun orator, may he rest in peace.
Then came the lawyer. With lapses in his speeches but he was still steady fast in leadership. He steered the ship with pride and true patriotism. He listened and woke up sleeping dogs.
Yes I remember for I was at compass when we called for immunity of a short president to be broken.
He dead too, the lawyer and will be sadly missed for his brave heart.
Yes I remember when a dude called RB took over.It was like magic show I will live to remember.Him being the only and only one.Kicked his old buddies out so that him being the only one.The rest of the story is a lost cause….

As much as I hate the MMD, they should have made more effort in Paying the register, and it’s sad a country who made history has to end this way. If UNIP and some of these small parties payed registry fees, then I feel it’s only right the former ruling party should pay. If we default paying mortgage and car payments, they get reposed. MMD are dull they new the consequences. They have no one to blame but themselves. Politics is a dangerous game, lives get ruined. The MMD and UPND etc. would have pushed for the de-register of the main opposition too, if PF were not paying the fees. All politicians are the same, wake up people.

But surely can someone come to their aid and bail them out. Where’re we going to get the money for 53 bye elections? Not my hard earned money I pay thru Tax. Dr Nevers kindly save your party and my tax so that it can be used to other developmental programs than Bye election.

wait until you suffer the costs of 53 by-elections then rejoice over their de-registration. Think objectively before you support certain insanity. let us just pray that the MMD does pay that money. Whats the point in holding costly elections over again and deny your people salary increments, just to prove you’re in power and can do what you want, what about our future. God help us

This a clear case of the law being applied and it is also stark reminder of how corrupt the MMD was to the extend of ruling this country ileggaly when they were not a duly registered Political Party as they were not paying their dues.
This Party has to really transform and probably even change the name to convince some of us!!

People who condemning pf have a short memory. Mmd has a history of defaulting in paying their financial obligations remember they were evicted from their lusaka house offices for non payments of rental amounting to hundreds of millions in rentals to napsa. So this should not come as a surprise.

fellow zambians it is important to note that laws are formulated for all citizens to abide by.
what is so special that mmd can not pay what is due to their existance.
kindly note that this is not politically motivated but the registra is acting in accordance with the law.
i squarely blame mmd for causing unnecessary by elections.
while in power they knew all about this ,surely can’t these guys pay even after being reminded.

There is no party called MMD, it was a movement for change period. PF please take this country forward with patriotism. UPND is fifty years away from taking the seat and will wait for that time too.
