TIZ Appeals For A Plan Of Action On Graft Fight

Transparency international Zambia (TIZ) has appealed to the patriotic front government to roll out a clear plan of action in its quest to fight corruption.

TIZ President Rueben Lifuka says the fight against corruption can not just be won by just mere pronouncement as seen in the last 6 months of the patriotic front in office.

Mr. Lifuka says government needs to come up with a proper plan of action which will allow it to deal with the sources of corruption and help put in place mechanisms for oversights.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Lifuka says TIZ is however happy with government’s will to fight corruption but states that much more can and should be done.

He says priority in the corruption fight should not only be with the prosecution of a few cases but should be demonstrated beyond investigation and prosecution.

Sound advice boLifuka! On the same page, ensure that organisations such as yours follow up relevant arms or wings of govt than making pronouncements in international media without some built-up case histories. Follow up all revealed cases. You too are govt watch dogs. Big up ndate!

What is dazzling people about the statements being made is that they are touching on the crux of the issues affecting Zambia.

We have weak/insuffient laws that are meant for a monarchy in a republic. The laws place the judiciary under the crown. All this when placed in a political president drives them mad. Then we have corruption happening.

To stop this, the monarchial power of the president needs to go to the people. The president should not have absolute power to appoint anyone to any position in the civil service or to remove anyone through dismissal. An independent civil service commission should do this.

Civil servants will behave like pensionable employees as opposed to contract workers.

Lifuka is waffling instead of commenting on the corruption issue involving his friends mmembe/nchito who are being shielded by government from having to pay what they owe…and its not a small amount, K 14 billion.
